I am asking for a little help or advice. I am getting tremors in my hands and I am struggling with lifting my cue arm on my Linn Sondek LP12. Has anyone got any solutions to help me overcome or address this issue. It has stopped me from playing vinyl records on the Linn. When I try to lift the cue arm my hands shakes and causes the arm to skate across the record and none of us want to do that.
I know this sounds like a answer to my question, but this doesn’t happen when I use my Project turntable, but it isn’t a Linn either.
Sorry to hear about the tremor. Wait for the diagnosis but if it is permanent perhaps time to think about a streaming solution? The Linn should get you funds to have a high quality streamer. If keeping vinyl then consider changing from Linn to Rega?
Could be Essential Tremor Disorder. I have that in my hands sometimes and - whilst it’s annoying - it’s nothing to worry about. Worth speaking to your GP about it, though, to make sure it’s nothing more serious.
Get a diagnosis from your doctor first before you do anything else - there may well be treatment options that help with your vinyl issue. If it does turn out to be essential tremor then alcohol lessens the tremor (within reason) so perhaps have a whisky before a listening session
Sorry to hear of your issue - hopefully it can be sorted medically, or at least be no more than a nuisance. In the meantime does Linn not make one of these?
Sorry to hear about this, I’m not familiar with your tonearm but doesn’t it have a lever to lift and lower it? I have an Arko arm on my LP12 and can lift and lower the arm using the lever on the right, if the prognosis isn’t great (hope I’m wrong) then maybe an alternative arm with this facility could be an option as I would guess that keeping the LP12 would be your preference.
As others note, the first thing here is to get a diagnosis. After that though…
There are a number of solutions here without having to contemplate a different turntable or a move to streaming. Moving to streaming may indeed offer no solution at all because a hand tremor and a remote control or tablet based app are not necessarily any easier to control.
Have a look at the Tru-Lift hydraulic lifter or the little Fwend. Modest costs for both. There are a number of other options too which may work as a wider solution e.g. look up gyroscopic gloves. I have seen the Little Fwend and several glove examples at assistive technology fairs and both are impressive.
@bruss because of disability i switched from Linn to Rega years ago. For me, it was not the cue lift, but the suspension. Aldo I had difficulty with the VTF SETTINGS on the Ekose.
This is a good suggestion and was about to recommend much the same. A steadying arm lift is a good solution if one wants to keep playing records. My hands are not altogether steady and cannot be trusted to manually que a record every time. I always use the built in queing device on my Audiomods arm and also did so on the Rega 600 arm I had previously. It takes the risk out of the operation for me.
This is my problem it isn’t the arm cue lifter, it’s the suspension system. When using the cue lift. My fingers are touching the arm board and it makes the arm bounce on the record. The Fwend arm lifter seems to be a great solution.
I have recently had the deck serviced with karousel, Kore and Trampoline, I really don’t want to move it on I want to hear my upgrade
I have had some blood tests and waiting for the results to come back to me
I have recently spoke to the Linn specialist who did my upgrade. He suggested that I use a pencil to lift the cue arm. This stops me from touching the arm board as well.
This has allowed me to play my Sondek LP12 and listen to my record collection.
