@murmur My ‘newer belt’ was bought from the only Linn dealer at my side last year, so it’s genuine and probably 3. the latest stock. Hard for me to find the ‘right side’ by eyes, could only feel by fingers. It’s so tight that pulling my pre-cirkus inner platter very slightly off-centre…and whenever fire up my Valhalla the platter shakes a little. No change whatsoever after a year.
The ‘older belt’ with a similar thickness to the ‘newer belt’, bought two years ago from the UK and the seller claimed it’s genuine. Difference of the 2 sides is more obvious, platter runs steady and sounds very good to me.
Replace the cantilever with a new one (aluminium tube) fitted with a Vital shape diamond. Or as a alternative upgrade fit a Boron cantilever with a Micro Ridge diamond.
Rewind the coil/armature with new copper wire.
Replace the tie-wire assembly/suspension with new.
Clean & run full operating tests.
The cost will be £400 plus VAT and shipping for the standard repair.
Or £650 plus VAT and shipping for the Boron cantilever option.
Troika arrived and cosmetically looks in superb condition (body, wires, case etc). Obviously I’m excluding the innards because I dont know without hearing it so pending assessment.
Next step, off to Goldring for a) assessment and then b) rebuild -assuming it needs a rebuild, which I think probable, it’s obviously not going to be a Supex Troika anymore, so am favouring the Boron etc option.
”The motor is identical to that of the Karma, and a short aluminum cantilever—Linn has consistently shied away from exotic cantilever materials—holds a high-quality nude Vital stylus”
couple of questions which you my have addressed in previous posts
1..where & how did you source your Trokia
2..what arm are you going to use.
3…what are you anticipating the final cost is going to be.
4… have you got a quote from Goldring or do they have to examine your cart before you agree to any work.
Sorry if this is a bit long winded but like I said before you are my canary in the mine on this topic.
Hi Graham
1/
ebay (seller of used hifi with great multiple feedbacks) loads of good photos and very decent description.

I’m hoping £1k or so, probably a little bit over depending on options. Won’t really know til I hear from Goldring. What would be nice is they assess the suspension etc as good thus only a retip needed - but in view of its age, I doubt that’ll happen.

My understanding is I contact them via the website, tell them what my needs/wants are & send photos. Then wait for their reply.
I’m hoping that the Troika Wizard still handles the Troika stuff!
I’m waiting for a couple of clear days off, then I’ll contact Goldring - not sure how Christmas may affect times, so I’m in no great rush.
Then, either truck up to Graham’s HiFi in their new place or find a nearer trustworthy dealer…
Hope my canary chirps are helpful, or at least tuneful!
It’ll be a while, Graham…once I have the Troika back, then it’s dealer time to fit it and get the deck serviced. Grahams HiFi moved to Barnet, but my wife has offered a lift there and back so I may well stick with them, been a customer for years, rather than seek a new dealer.
Was going to go the Boron cantilver route, but still deciding: David was most helpful and said that many customers were delighted with the Vital/Aluminium option. Decisions decisions!
