Trying out ADOT fibre and Network Acoustics ENO

I have the Adot solution (two boxes) and standard power supply. It made an immediate and obvious improvement. I removed it for a while to make sure and missed it so it stayed….

I want to explore the the Plixir power supply (£400ish) so would welcome feedback too. Also did I read there is a better cable now as opposed to the orange one (single mode fibres)?

Thanks
Gary

I think mine is single it’s yellow? I went for the linear supply, I’d borrow the power supply but I an worried I world like it and then have to buy it lol

I have a Network Acoustics Muon Pro filter on the way. I already have the ADOT with Plixir which made a bigger difference than I imagined. The Muon will go right into the ND555 so I am really interested to hear the difference it makes. With the ADOT and Melco switch already in, I wondered whether the Muon could make a big improvement. Rob at Network Acoustics was confident that it would, so I’ll see. Should arrive this week sometime.
I’ve heard that the ADOT cable can be upgraded with another cable at a cost of about £4. My issue is that I’m not sure what the upgrade cable is. My ADOT cable was orange.

New Taiko audio switch. Around 6 k euros. Taiko took several years to develop it. Apparently he believes in SFP ports. The switch has 2 SFP.

The input SFP+ slot can be fitted with either an RJ-45 connector module or a Fiber connector module.

The output SFP+ slot can be fitted with either an RJ-45 connector module, a Fiber connector module, or a DAC Cable in a variety of lengths ranging from 0,5 – 7m.

I discover that you have the Melco S10 switch. You seem to be the only one, as others with an Nd555 didn’t liked it , specially vs a powered Etheregen or PhoenixNet.
Have you compared the S10 vs those later ?

Hi @frenchrooster. I’m afraid I didn’t test the others. The etherregen didn’t appeal to me as some said build quality wasn’t great and it gets hot in use. All my network equipment is in a separate cupboard and the Melco’s size fitted best. I definitely can’t say that the Melco is the best, but I can say that I enjoy it very much. The ADOT made a big improvement in clarity I will say, which perhaps shouldn’t be needed to optimise a very expensive switch, but that’s what I heard.

UPDATE! Having now bought the Adot with linear power supply and single mode upgrade I honestly think if you’re buying a streaming system this should be on your list as a must purchase! Spend less on the streamer and add this if you have too. I think it’s a great upgrade and brings streaming to a high end cd player level especially if you don’t want to have cds back in your room again! It’s transformed my system to a level I did not think poss with streaming close to that of my vinyl (not quite) a good cd player is amazing but I wanted the convenience and Now I have both! So it gets my seal of approval! I suspect some will not hear the difference so I would say it will just save you money by not buying it! I had no choice! Also great for internet radio and Spotify! Highly recommend! Thanks to my local specialist who was patient with me till I was sure.

Can you tell us a little more about the single mode upgrade. I have the 2 box solution with orange connector, what is required to upgrade to the single mode?

Like you I found the 2 box solution was a worth while change. Wasn’t sure at first so removed it and missed it!

Gary

Truth is I had to get my head round it? I was looking for the usual box upgrade more or the same if you know what I am saying but when you get it which is daft really you really get it! It was still a great sound before but now instruments are real it was easier to listen too the sort of upgrade you would expect from a lot more money, it’s like everything has tones now where as before it was all a wash of sound! As for the upgrade I can’t really say as I never heard the one you have as I was told it was a no brainier once heard for the difference! It’s not a lot of money to change if you can Borrow one and try it!

Only just noticed this thread. Out of interest i googled the ADOT media convertor and was amazed to find it on future shop for £359! I thought wow! I work in the data networking industry, and media convertors cost a fraction of that, another quick google finds the VERY similar looking device on fs.com for £25. ( GMC-1G-RJSFP - 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 to 1000BASE-SX/LX SFP Media Converter - GBICS.com ) That’s one hell of a markup! I guess that’s hifi!

There is a long explanation on the site as it seems some of these converters can actually make it sound worse? They had to source older slower style equipment and it’s all manually put together so it’s lot of time etc I did think this myself but actually for what it does is a bargain! You’re always going to pay for someone’s expertise… think about naim power leads and some rca cables you think how much then you think could you make it cheaper …probably but could you make it sound as good? In hifi terms it’s relatively small for the gains. Ps the cost of my Adot set up was £625! even more lol

Hi Jim

Would be interested to see how you got on with the Network Acoustics Muon… have you had a chance to try it yet? I found the ENO very compelling and the Muon is supposed to be even better still. Must try the new single wire fibre for the ADOT at some point too!

I really found the combination of the ADOT and the ENO transformational.

Hi @Jason I thought the Muon was impressive. Unfortunately I can’t say how much better than the ENO, but it certainly brought more clarity and detail whilst tonality was still rich and vibrant.
It’s been in two weeks now, but I felt most of the improvements happened in the first few days. Initially it sounded a bit closed in and dull.
I’d say the ADOT improved things more than the Muon, but even with the ADOT in situ and a Melco S10 switch, the Muon added an extra clarity. Hope that helps?

Interesting @Monkey_Jim , thanks for the update. I might give it a try at some point to see how it compares to the ENO. Unfortunately, other priorities to consider first!
All the best.

In the context of a system that’s already had a lot of attention to reducing the electrical noise that’s supposedly an issue for networks, the Muon, perhaps surprisingly, moved the system on, it’s a really nice improvement. It was a bit like a HiCap upgrade, nice to have but not essential. Good luck with your improvements @Jason

Thanks @Monkey_Jim . Yes, with the Melco, Melco switch and the ADOT, you wouldn’t think there would be much left to ‘clean up’ would you! Seems you’re still benefiting from the same sort of results the ENO brought to my system though… impressive stuff. Thanks again.

Update on the Adot I have added a Sbooster to both sides via the power splitter I had with the kit and again this was crucial and a lot more than icing on the cake as I see it! I also used an Sbooster on my melco which you have to do if you have their standard power supply it’s so good and considering the price I am getting gains like I used to get with XPS upgrades! Hard to believe I know. But although it was great with just the melco upgrade the power supply on the Adot moved it to another level on my system! I now feel I am getting better results than with my old naim cdx2 and hi cap it seemed to start with the Melco and finishes off nicely with the Adot upgrade power supply which makes it all seem more real. I don’t begin to understand it all but it seems noise is the real problem get rid of that and hardrives can compete if not better cds with All the benefits. Just my opinion of course.

So if you have fibre to the house and the only bit of copper is a 12” length of Network cable to the a router from the ONT Modem then there’s no need for the ADOT I would say.

Have you tried? If not it’s better to say nothing I would say.

The reason we split it is the original one was split that’s how it works all we have done is take out the original supply and done the same thing? Expect the Sbooster is a much better supply do you get it? So the reason it didn’t seem to sound as good was the original supply was the router end the Sbooster the melco end but it worked better this way. Obviously one on each end would be better but I am happy with what is! Smiley face
