Turntable project

A couple of years back got the audio DIY bug and have built some speakers which have turned out really well. I’ve had my eye out for a turntable to restore and came across and bought a Thorens TD150 mk2 for a great price. After setting up and adding a cheap stylus to getting running,

it’s working and sounding quite good.

Now I know the turntable is in a good working order I plan to make a new plinth, rewire and new base and feet. The current cartridge is a Shure M55e which I have fitted with a Tonar M44 stylus just prove everything is working.

Is the Shure M55e worth keeping and upgrading the stylus, or change for a new cartridge, must be MM so it can work with the phono stage in my Rega Elicit. The Shure does give a nice possibly vintage sound, very different to the AT33PTG/2 on my TD1600.

The old Shure cartridges are well liked, its so hard to work out where these are against todays offerings.
