Turntable wall shelf - Any new options?

Hi all,

With the recent acquisition of an LP12 and springy floorboards, I am going to have to suck it up and install a wall shelf. Rack isn’t an option.

From a forum search, seems the last discussion assessing the market was a couple of years ago. Sorry to tread old ground but worth checking if there have been any newcomers or consensus on most suitable for LP12. Main players at that time were:

  • Quadraspire
  • Tigerpaw Vulkan
  • Solidsteel
  • Target (out of production)
  • Rega
  • Project
  • Decent audio (questionable if still in production)
  • Isoblue (out of production)

My dealer stocks quadraspire and solidsteel.

Keen on any views from shelf owners or if there are any new products on the market….

I had the same question a couple of months ago, as I needed a new shelf for my LP12.
I decided on a Ladder Rack from Solid Sounds in Leeds. Excellent twin level shelf, from a UK manufacturer. Easy to mount and get level. Highly recommend.

Had not heard of these at all, very good tip. I’m leaning for a straight 1 shelf, but might have to reconsider

Amazon or Etsy have wall mounted Microwave shelfs that are black steel and telescoping to fit. They are robust and will certainly support a tt.
Good luck
Ps Youll like the price.

Having moved house I had the same problem. I opted for a Solid Steel shelf. It is well made, relatively easy to install robustly (dot and dab wall using oak spacers to bridge the gap between wall and plasterboard) and simply looks the part.

The sound (LP12 ) is superb to my ears, so I can highly recommend this shelf.

The Vulkan looks to be out of stock on the TP website, but looks very well designed for the job.

I use an old Target shelf and it works very well. These products don’t wear out, so buying an old one on eBay is a great option.

Several people swear by the Quadraspire and Solidsteel products. Fewer seem to use a Rega shelf for an LP12, though it is praised with Rega turntables.

I suspect that any of those that you like aesthetically will be a good choice.

Having done much experimenting with what to put under an LP12, keeping it simple worked well, adding stuff mostly didn’t. YMMV of course.

There are entire threads on this, and on the merits of no baseboard, old standard, Tramp 1, Tramp 2, newer standard and non-Linn products.

We look forward to the pictures once whatever you pick is up!

Thanks Nick, your thread from a couple of years back was super helpful getting me to a shortlist. I am hoping there might be some new products out there but not holding my breath…

Here is the setup pre whatever shelf I end up with

Telescoping is not a good idea for this application - you need rigidity.

Beauty is in the eye & all that, but gosh, these things are not much to look at are they?

I could do with something, but am slightly holding back as I don’t know how high up the wall to put it, c/f how many Naim boxes will I end up with below. :grinning:

My hi-fi shelving is made by Custom Design in Newcastle which I like a lot (no doubt others will disagree), so I might buy one of theirs - just a shame they don’t do it in white to go with the walls …

Have to do the deck too. :scream: :joy:

Most car wheel restorers will do a re powder coat of a rack or shelf as pocket money.
I got my Target TT4 rack blasted and powder coated for £60 worth asking :+1:t2:

Maybe an option you have not thought of, but solid Acrylic is just about the most “inactive” surface you can place a record deck on. I’ve been using Audio Suspension Acrylic wall mounted surfaces for years because i also have a very springy suspended floor. Not cheap, but they do what it says on the tin.

The nicest :+1:

I did see those, and it does look good. Have you ever found the 45 degree wires to “get in the way” of changing records etc?

I have the Audio Suspension under my Rega RP10. Looks good and works fine.

No, the support wires have never got in the way. In fact they are a long way either side of the turntable itself. If you look at the pic below, the Michell dustcover which includes the the arm, is a long way from the support wires. If had had far too many single malts, it might be an issue…but i’m not that drunk that often…i am lol…but i play CD’s then lol.

I have the Solidsteel WS-5. I’m not using it currently, but it is a fantastic wall shelf. Built like a tank and looks great. I have thought about moving my hifi from the upstairs bedroom it’s in now, down to the larger living room. At that point I’ll put the Solidsteel up again for my TT (which is 63 lbs).

Thanks for the contributions. The shortlist if I buy new is now in no particular order:

  • Solidsteel WS-5
  • Quadraspire Q4 wall bracket
  • Audio Suspension ASU 100

Might have to throw final decision to my better half given it’s in the middle of our loungeroom. Picture will follow in due course.

Have to say, seems to be an opportunity for something more aesthetically pleasing. Sort of wish Naim or Linn would create something themselves or collaborate with a furniture maker…. Just wishful thinking

I have a little older Quadraspire Q4 wall bracket for my turntable. I can really recommend it!
Although it’s not anymore on the wall after my living room renovation and I did purchase Rega’s own wall bracket… I feel that little smaller wall bracket suits better with Rega P8.

Here is a one older picture of the Q4:

Really like the simplicity and aesthetic of a good turntable placed on top of a decent piece of furniture, particularly a mid century style sideboard.

Why not just leave it like that?
Does the LP12 have the Tramp2 suspension / baseboard ?
That might be an option here ?

Good luck

Yeah it does have a tramp 2 installed. Was hoping this would make enough of a difference but doesn’t unfortunately.
