Turntable XLR and iec

Hi

I know there are a lot of folk out there who use a wide range of decks

I am looking for a one box player with xlr output and a integrated power supply

Only one I can find is the Yamaha 5000 but £10k is a bit too much for my pocket

Phono stage is in my rack and I want the player near my listening position (5m) so would need balanced xlr I think

Thanks for any ideas

Could get an adapter rca to female xlr
Have more choice of decks

By one box, you mean with built-in phonostage?

TEAC TN-5BB is about $2k. Has XLR out and runs off a supplied wallwart but no phonostage.

I have the one down from it and it’s very good but unfortunately they do respond well to better power supplies… Though you could replace the supplied wallwart with a better wallwart like an Ifi X-Power.

If you need to have your turntable 5m away from the rack and phono stage, then I’d look at locating the phono stage with the turntable and use a longer interconnect between the phono stage and the amp.

Your signature shows an LP12. What phono stage are you using ?

I missed that they had an LP12. Hunt out a Prefix and get creative with the power supply.

What phono stage are you using? Presumably it has a balanced input, otherwise there’s no point in using a turntable with a balanced output, even if you can find one.
I would consider James’s advice and put a phono stage close to the turntable (or even built in) if you really want it that far from the amp.

I have had a mix up with my system

Now running a Makua with a built in phono stage into a nap500 and passive atc100

So I have a xlr phonostage already

Want to move the deck, and don’t want a wall wart.

It’s a big ask

Don’t even know who does a Yamaha 5000 deck in the uk

I guessed that someone must because I found a What Hifi review listed. I was then surprised to find Yamaha actually have a store in London which has one in stock.

An alternative, Project make balanced output turntables.

Sooo I’m still not 100% clear on this: the new deck needs balanced output and a built in power supply but doesn’t need a built in phonostage because you already have one?

Have you considered a Thorens turntable?
The TD 1601 has XLR output.

And Thorens TD 1500 has XLR output as well

Exactly that

Looking for a deck that has a iec power socket and a pair of xlr outs that go to my phono stage

I do t make things easy for myself

I have missed that one

Will have a look

Okay so now understanding the issue better, and considering the quality of deck you are used to, I would go for a listen of a Luxman PD-191A and have it fitted with the optional JPC-15000PH XLR tonearm cable.

Plus

Don’t think that gives me a balanced output. Just a xlr connection. But can not tell from the info on the web

Also, the price point is up where the Yamaha is.

Looking for a more affordable unit.

I do like luxman. Will keep a eye out for a deal

It’s worth a bit of reading up on that, as I wasn’t sure about it either. From what I can tell a cartridge, particularly MC for some reason, is an inherently balanced source. So even if the other decks offering XLR balanced out might have some electronics on board, it doesn’t make your existing deck not balanced.

Only issue if you ran a MM cartridge with long interconnects would be the capacitance of them. But I think you’re running MC? For the price of a set of balanced phono leads it might be worth an experiment with your existing deck?

Totally willing to be wrong on the above!! But a 15 minute Google produced quite a bit of reading on the topic. Plus, this is one of the best places to be corrected, so I’m sure someone will if I have it incorrect

I started googling and ended up down a few rabbit holes

I have been doing some more reading. And the xlr mc cartridge interface does give me options

I like the idea of a 151 with the xlr option

About 20% of my listening is vinyl so 10k on a player isn’t in the running

Any recommendations of where to look?

I could’t say. I’m not UK based, but there should be Luxman dealers around. And a 151 or even 171 crop up at auction sometimes.

Something like this connected to your LP12 might work…
