TV Monitor with decent Sound

Looking for advice - I perviously used a TV as a monitor for work (I work from home) and had the sound through my hifi via the optical digital out. I enjoyed watching the TV with the hifi sound - was pretty good to my ears. The TV was connected to a real life aerial plus the internet for streaming.

I have recently bought a monitor as it’s sooo much better as a monitor and didn’t cost much. I can watch the TV via my laptop apps, but there doesn’t seem to be a way of getting decent sound through my hifi. I bought a lead to convert USB from my laptop to optical but the sound is a bit not good.

I’ve looked at TV Monitors but they seem to be v expensive and not that good.

Any thoughts? Thanks all

Retire?

Oh I wish!!

I use a firestick on an old pc monitor and use the monitor headphone jack as an output in to a spare din input on the naim pre. If the sound from the laptop app isn’t so good then I can’t see a way of improving it.

I’ll take the minimal response as a sign that there are no obvious answers. My laptop USB to 272 optical in via adapter works OK. Better than standard sound through monitor or laptop speakers, just not as good as it used to be. I think the standard sound that comes with a TV channel must be OK quality, though perhaps it’s all digital these days and makes no difference.
