Atom digital inputs, 1=coax, 2 & 3=toslink. Input 2 not connected and disabled in Naim app.
Latest firmware installed and a full factory reset has been done. Roon server is networked wirelessly and the TV is cabled.
I have a Roon server connected to input 1 and TV on input 3 but if play Roon and have input 3 selected in the app I can still hear it as clearly as if input 1 is selected. The same for the TV on input 3 which plays on input 1 if selected.
So, I can play Roon or TV on either input, not just the one that it’s connected to.
The Atom clearly shows that the app is selecting inputs correctly.
So you have a coax SPDIF output on your Roon server? If so, are you sure that when you use Roon it is using this direct connection rather than your network, which is what most Roon users would likely choose?
Thanks again. Back home and your tip was useful in diagnosing the issue.
You were right, I wasn’t listening via USB but through wifi
I did do another factory reset and didn’t set up wireless and all seems ok.
If I connect via ethernet though the problem doesn’t come back, I’m not complaining but it is a little confusing.
Thanks again
If you want to use the SPDIF input you probably need to enable it in Roon settings. Personally I wouldn’t bother, the network connection should work, may hypothetically sound a bit better, and allows you to locate the server anywhere rather than having to put it close to the HiFi gear.
It was mainly set up as a listening test as previously I was listening via ethernet through a optoisolated Cisco switch.
First impressions with USB are quite favourable but a more extended test is warranted.
USB direct without any network connection on the Atom does have its obvious drawbacks though.
Anyway, seems sorted now but I’m still confused why I get the original issue on wifi but not on ethernet.
