Now that I got HDMI working, really loving my Atom. Also just picked up Focal Aria Evo 1’s, also very happy with, but, always a but, lol. I can get a good deal on Aria Evo2’s. Is my Atoms 40w enough for those small floor standers?
Steve, I own the Aria 926, former version of current Evo 2 model and my experience is that these loudspeakers need power and control, most of all in the mid-low/low frequency range.
That’s something I heard and read many time but I also experienced myself. The risk is to have a bloated rendition of the mid-low frequencies and lack of tight focus.
I drive them with a 125 w class A/D Nuprime that drives them correctly but lack a bit of focus/tightness on low frequencies. For weird circumstances I connected a very old Crest Audio Pro 8001 power amp, just for testing the amp and I have been very surprised of the result in terms of drivability. Current power amp is more refined but the result of the 700+ watts and the current the Crest amp is capable of speaks a lot about the power/current demand of such speakers.
As usual only a test, and in your case I would strongly recommend it, can solve the dilemma.. This is only my experience for what is worth.
