Uniti Atom Headphone Edition stuck at LED error code 4-2-7 on power-up

Hello everyone,

I’m new here and was hoping to tap into the community’s expertise. I recently imported a brand-new Uniti Atom Headphone Edition to Mexico. When I power it on, here’s exactly what happens:

  1. I press the front power button → the display backlight briefly comes on (but remains blank/black).
  2. The unit then enters an error state: the power-button LED flashes 4 times, pauses, 2 times, pauses, 7 times, then repeats indefinitely.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Power-cycle: unplugged for 10+ minutes, then re-powered.
  • Cable swap: I’m still using the factory-supplied IEC cable (labeled “230 V”), but I have to plug it into a Mexican outlet via a UK→NEMA adapter.
  • Eliminating adapters: I plan to test next with a straight IEC→NEMA (PC-style) cable to rule out flaky contacts.
  • Measuring wall voltage: it sits at ~110 V, well within specs.

Despite all that, the Atom never advances past the 4-2-7 blink code. I fully understand that Naim’s multi-voltage PSU supports both 115 V and 230 V, so I strongly suspect this is not simply a mains-voltage issue.

My questions for anyone who’s seen 4-2-7 on an Atom (or Atom HE):

  1. Have you ever cleared it by replacing the IEC cable or adapter?
  2. Could a poor earth/ground connection trigger 4-2-7?
  3. Is there a firmware-recovery trick (USB or Ethernet) when the unit won’t pass initialisation?
  4. At what point should I stop DIY troubleshooting and send it in for service?

Any insights, tips, or similar experiences would be hugely appreciated. I’m happy to provide serial number, firmware version (if I can ever get it to display) or video of the blink sequence.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m not entirely sure I’ve understood properly but, are you trying to use a 230V Atom on a 115V mains supply?

Note that the Atom its not multi-voltage, or at least not automatically (it isn’t a switch mode supply). It would need to be changed by the factory or by the local distributor to change from one voltage to another (although of a personal grey import that may not wish to touch it).

According to the Naim Uniti Atom HE specification, does it accept both 115V and 230V, or am I mistaken?

Or is the version of Uniti Atom I have factory-configured to only accept 230 V?

I’m attaching a photo of the power supply specifications:

It’s available as either 115V out 230V. The rear label of yours shows that it is 230V. You should definitely not try to use it on a 115V mains circuit.

Can you return the unit for a replacement or refund?

So, the error code 4-2-7 at power on is because my house voltage is 115 V and my Uniti Atom is the 230 V version?

Richard suggests that. What can you do?

Obviously you have 2 choices:
Buy the correct 115v version

Use a step up transformer to give 230v from 115.

Will the transformer void his warranty or mess up the unit in any other way or cause a fire hazard?

No

When you say you had this imported new to Mexico, did you use a dealer or retailer and say it was for use in Mexico. It seems odd that you were supplied with a new 240V model if you were importing it to Mexico. Or did you not have that checked?

If it is what Richard says then I will try the 230V socket, I just need to hire an electrician to configure that socket, I already have air conditioners that use 230V, so it should not be complicated for the electrician to make a 230V socket for the UNITI ATOM.

Indeed, the electrician will just fit a bridged MCB in the consumer unit to bond two 115v lines and, as long as the wiring already in place is certified for 230v, they just have to change the sockets on that circuit to whatever is legally permitted in Mexico for 230v circuits. Hopefully that would allow a UK, or even better, a European Shuko socket.

I didn’t pay attention to that, I just ordered the Uniti Atom and they sent me the 230V one, if I had ordered it I think they would have sent me the 115V one.

If ordered from the UK or Europe then it would be a 230V unit. If from the US/Canada then it would be a 115V unit.

Can you return the unit and get a 115V one?

Yes, I ordered from a store in Spain. It never occurred to me to ask if they had the Uniti Atom in a 115V version. I ended up buying a voltage converter and it worked perfectly now. Thanks to you and everyone for your help.

Hello,
I had the same problem today and thanks to this post I solved, but basically just changing power cable to one thicker. Still confused by voltages and ampere but the solution was to switch to a cable clearly with a bigger diameter so I guess able to carry more…power

A different cable will NOT make a 230V device work on a 110V mains supply!

Yes, true. In my case was the cable but in this thread is the source/supply. My fault, I should have read more about this 4-2-7 error
