What’s the correct procedure for shutdown and/or re-start?

Put it to sleep with a long press of the front panel standby button and wait a few seconds before pulling the mains plug out.

Wait a few more seconds for everything to discharge before plugging it in again. It will start up and be fully awake without you having to do anything else.
