Uniti Star end of life?

Seems the Uniti star has stopped production due to supply chain issues.
One more product in the line that suddenly came to an end.

Will Naim support ?

May I ask where this information came from please?

I googled as a follow up to the OP. All AI says it is nearing EOL. No word from Naim.

I’ll have to leave that in the middle

Edit: I mean I can’t say anything about the source

I don’t understand. Is it just gossip? Does @Richard.Dane know anything about this?

Middle of what?

AI probably got that from this thread, it’s not intelligent after all.

I guess it’s not an English expression. My apologies. It’s definitely not gossip as its a reliable source.

I’m not aware of the Star being EoL.

I do know that Naim have run into difficulty in sourcing the CD drives for the Star and because of this have had to pause production while they assess how to best proceed - i.e, whether an alternative drive can be used, and if so, what work is needed to adapt it to existing Star, or whether a more extensive re-design is required.

I know dealers and distributors have been made aware of the situation as I also received the communication from Naim.

Let’s wait and see. My information doesn’t not come from the internet but from a much more reliable channel.

So, it’s not end of life at all. It’s paused while Naim look for other drives. Someone posts that it’s EOL based on information from an undisclosed source. AI picks up the thread title and the untruth becomes truth. Isn’t the modern world great.

To be fair to the OP @Hifi_Naim_CNNL , they only posted that another product has ceased production due to a supply chain issue, which Richard has subsequently confirmed.

The subject title might turn out not to be accurate, however the ability to secure components to maintain a production line certainly appears on evidence to be a challenge and a trend.

Genuine question and not trying to kick up a storm. How can Naim source an alternative transport for Uniti Star if they can’t source transports to support existing CDP’s?

Is it the quality of the transport required or something else?

I seem to remember it being a Teac drive. They Teac stopped production for other companies a while back to concentrate on their own brands like Teac and Esoteric. I guess the volume of drives with distributors has dwindled…….Naim will have kept enough stock back for repairs etc.

The only threads I have seen on here are from disgruntled users because the drive does not work. Perhaps they should source better ones!

No. It absolutely sucks.

Well, to be honest, other Naim boxes have been “paused” in the past (see 202/200 if I recall correctly), never to see the light of day again.

Given that the Uniti range is 9 years old and that there is a new streaming platform used nowadays in CI-102/Focal Diva which can support room correction and EQ (Focal ADAPT), I would be really surprised if Naim R&D would spend a single second in re-engineering Star, rather than focusing their efforts in getting the next Uniti generation out there.

I never really understood the Star and it doesn’t seem to be a big seller, but who knows? If Naim discontinue too many things and don’t get a wiggle on with new products they may as well turn off the lights and close the door.

Star not a big seller, obsolescence issues with an OEM and now naim are faced with having to divert resources into finding an equivalent. Doesn’t bode well for Star I’d say.
