I wouldnât get too excited. I think the Nova is still superior SQ-wise (as it should be for the premium) and that all Jas was saying it was he noticed a small but noticeable SQ improvement, likely just by virtue of not having the drive and associated control stuff onboard rather than any more extensive internal changes to other parts.

While I understand things are fluid I think Naim not having a cd player is disappointing. The itâs hard to get parts thingâs a bit of a cop out, other manufacturers manage to secure parts and keep their players relevant.

Would Naim try to kill the Nova?
A single-box streamer/dac/amp (âstreaming amplifier) is a requirement in the lineup. I could see them replacing it in due course but not killing off the format. I think itâs too important a space at this time.
For those interested there is a comparison tool on the website where Star lite can be compared with Nova - aside from 10W difference in power, there are a few differences in inputs and outputs, in Nova radio is listed as an optional extra but standard in Starlite, and compatible speaker cables for Starlite is only Superlumina is mentioned (Nova also lists NACA5)
But the anticipated possible inclusion of a different CD drive hasnât happened

I meant kill the Nova classic and keep the PE at high end of all in one box.
I looked at the comparisson, but i donât trust it, as it is incorrect (comparing it to my Nova, that is).

After Star Lite, every Uniti member has two variations except Core, Atom/Atom HE, Star/Star Lite, Nova/Nova PE.
Letâs hope a new Core âLiteâ with streaming (without CD function seems evident which is fine for me)!!

Interesting! To which the question is, has Nova been changed since yours was produced, or is the info on the website, or the working of the comparison tool wrong? Maybe worth checking the anomalous detail with the published spec on website, and if wrong drawing Naimâs attention to whichever of 2nd & 3rd options apply?
Iâve got the Star and rip my cds to it , But these days itâs only probably 10 a year so I could rip on the PC.
I donât play CDs. at all.
I just feel it should have been called Starlet.

Well, mine is only 8 months old, so, nothing changed bar the 3.2 and 3.13 upgrade. My guess is that the comparison tool is offâŚ
In my short stint of Star ownership, i noticed that streaming to me sounded less noisy than CD playback (although with more oompf), which i worked around by just ripping the CD and playback from harddrive rather than CD
The inside of a Nova
The inside of a Star - I canât yet find a picture of the inside of a Starlite.
The CD drive sits atop of the circuit boards therefore I assume the removal of the CD drive will effectively just give more space. I get the impression from Richard that Naim have not completely re-engineered everything - rather they simply no longer fit the CD drive and have adjusted the casework (and price) to reflect this.
Does anyone know for definite if the Nova has a âbetterâ preamp stage than the Star? Otherwise, the main thing a Nova brings is an extra 10 WPC and a beefier power supply. That has always been the case over the Star anyway. Whether thatâs of any value will depend upon you and your room/speakers.

Difficult to understand all the kerfuffle really. It is what it is. If you donât approve then no reason to buy.
Given that quite a few manufacturers now have released new CD players or transports itâs disappointing that Naim seem to have entirely washed their hands of CD. I expect Iâm in a very small minority thinking this though. Which may explain why.
