Uniti Star - transfer files from PC to USB HD

Hello - I hope this is a simple thing I need to do which, at present, I’m just not seeing.

I have had a Uniti Star for a couple of years. I chose Star because it can rip lossless, and have subsequently copied my CD collection onto a WD 2TB HD in WAV format (I’m a Windows user)

My issue: A couple of CDs play fine on the Star but either won’t rip or have errors when ripping. However, they will rip as lossless WAV to my PC.

My plan is: plug in the HD to my PC and copy the ripped data into my music folders on the HD BUT, there’s no sign of the HD when I plug it in. It’s formatted NTFS. It powers up so I was expecting to see it appear in my drive listing.

Odd.

Has anyone successfully copied to an external HD from microsoft? Am I missing something really simple?

I’ve done it loads of times. I use windows commander. The files are in the store on your hd .

Assuming your external drive is configured as a Naim Music Store to which the Star rips, rather than as a normal USB hard drive to which you may add files at will, then the issue may be something to do with the way that Naim lock down the Star Music Store, but I’m not familiar with the details of that.

It may be a legacy of my original set up. I think it’s a music store. I don’t fancy reformatting and re-ripping my collection.

If I have to do that I’ll be looking at a server I think.

I’ve never had any problems accessing my music store files on my pc. I do it that way to back up to the pc.

I also use it to change any metadata if required

Still struggling - i suppose it’s because it’s set up to my Star - the only music on it was ripped by the star.

My PC just doesn’t see it - although I hear it power up and I can see it to ‘safely eject’ the drive.

Odd.

Try ripping a CD and saving as FLAC. If that resolves your problem, it’s the proprietary way that Naim attaches metadata to WAV files that’s your problem.

No that wouldn’t stop him seeing the Wav files in his PC.

I suggest going to Windows Explorer in Windows 11 and mounting the drive.

I presume you are disconnecting the drive and plugging it into the Pc . Not trying to see it on a nertwork

When I plug my WD SSD into my Windows 11 and Windows 10 machines, it automatically opens a window for the removable drive, and I click through to MQ, and all my rips are there.
Just in case a Windows upgrade could have broken it, I have just checked again and it was fine.
I wonder if it is a setting on your PC causing the issue.

Hi. Yes - plugging the drive into my PC. The drive was new, bought for the star. I formatted it through the star app and steadfastly copied my CDs to it.

My PC is new and up to date… I am not seeing anything when I plug it in. No pop up and nothing in my folders/drives

I bet/hope it’s a setting… the pc is brand new win11.

That said, I’ve tried on my partners laptop and two others I regularly use and, nothing…
