Uniti Star

Regardless of whether that ‘network path’ will work or not Mike, one thing I would advise is not to have numerous backups (types and sources) on the one external USB drive…It’s just asking for trouble and issues and if that drive fails for whatever reason then you lose the lot…For what they cost these days, far better to have dedicated drives per source…
(Yes, it can be argued backing up to a NAS is a ‘single’ destination also, but it’s very different with separated shares (and potentially Volumes) as well as the fact the likely RAID method employed (5/6/10 etc) also affords something of a HDD failure safety net…

For my Core, I actually have two separate LaCie Rugged USB drives for backup, which I rotate and store separately and then also a destination on my main NAS (which in turn is backed up)…As I was saying in a thread the other day, I’m perhaps going to also employ a different type of LAN based backup (probably retiring the standard NAS one by the Core) using 3rd party backup software, just to give me a different safety-net to the Core’s internal backup function, which TBH I just don’t have complete 100% confidence in, as good as it seems to be…

Just some thoughts…

Edit: Meant to write in the first paragraph, also that Time Machine prefers (as advised by Apple) to be on it’s own volume (you can do it within a mixed content volume, but…)…If you do want to use a single physical HDD, you can format it with multiple volumes, then have one volume dedicated to the TM use (APFS format makes this especially easy)…
Again, for the reasons I stated before, think I would still have separate physical drives for reasons of fire/theft/loss etc etc…

Changed importer/distributor who had a lot of stock so selling off at heavily discounted prices.

Agree, it’s perfect for what I need and at less than 50% of retail it’s also extraordinary value for money

I’m surprised its still there to be honest…Mind you, who is going to install it and more importantly, whats the support black hole going to be between A2A and Westan…

Yes it does indeed do all that. But if you plug that USB device into another Star, or a Nova or a Core, it will appear empty.

I’ve had a Star for a while now, really pleased with it. As my preferences are for classical music I use Apple Music through Airplay. I haven’t been able to figure out how to use Chromecast, any one any advice?

Milletta, how do you find the sound of Star vs Uniti 2 ?
I think Uniti 2 is a great piece of eqipment.
Star is the same as Atom, plus Core?

Star sits between the Atom and the Nova and imo sounds a lot better than the uniti2 in all respects…I guess you’d call it the next evolution from the uniti2 with the Nova being the same for the SuperUniti…it certainly isn’t the same as the Atom
