I find it almost unforgivable that Naim didn’t give the Core the ability to transform formats. Very disappointing.
In 14 years I’ve had 2 hd failures, power supply failure and 2 cmos battery replacements. I feel like its only another few months before something else goes wrong and now want a much more reliable solution.
I’ve decided to order one of the last few Cores available.
My question is for those that already have a Core - do you have an hdd installed or an ssd and for how long? Has anyone had to replace a hard drive yet?

Most have Samsung Evo 8… ssd. Our core man @davidhendon will confirm.
I swapped from a HDD to a Samsung EVO 870 SSD well worth the extra cost.

You are of course correct. The SSD most commonly mentioned here is the Samsung 870 EVO. That is what I most recently fitted in my Core. I see that the last one I bought from Amazon in July 2025 was £139 but the price now is £399.
I went from Naim NS01 to Core. I installed a 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD and copied the files directly over from the NS01 in FLAC format. I had previously done back to back trials WAV vs FLAC and with the ND555 was unable to tell the difference. The transfer took some time, but was glitch free.
I’m sure you’ll be delighted with the Core. Backing up to portable USB drives is easy too by simply plugging into the port on the front.

In my Core I have multiple SSDs- Samsung 850 Pro 2TB and also 860 Pro (external backup) specifically chosen for their MLC reliability capabilities.
A wonderful feature of the Core is the Naim App, which gives me consistently with my ND5xs2, Mu-so 2
Whilst I chose to rip to WAV in the Core, I can also add FLAC through the user interface to the downloads folder, so best of both combos
Congratulations- I am sure you will find it’s simplicity pleasing as well as it delivers sonically pleasing music through both BNC or UPnP LAN
How easy is it to transfer my music from the UnitiServe to the Core?
I ripped my 600ish cds a long time ago and never want to do it again!
I have 2 folders on the US. Cd Collection for the ripped cds and a Downloads folder.
Can I create folders in the Core? Ideally I would like 3 folders as one folder would be only for Hires music.
I could ask my dealer to do the transfer but that means an additional 90 minute drive.

Easy peasy - backup from the UnitiServe to an externally attached USB drive, when complete [success], unplug the drive, plug it into the Uniti Core and restore from the usb device backup.
Done! @davidhendon any additional thoughts?

You can just put both on the same network and import the music into the Core from the US using “Import Music”. That’s what I did about ten years ago!
I wouldn’t mess around with a third folder. It might work but it might not as it’s not what the Naim app expects.
I run my with a NAS. I’ve got an HDD that I can put in it, but when I had one previously I could hear the platters spinning.
I have thought that I’ll put a HDD back in and see if there are any SQ differences that I can ascertain…
SSD would be quieter, but at the moment is with the AI RAMpocalypse, SSD storage is also rather expensive
As Osiris says, easy peasy. You can copy onto a USB drive, or (probably quicker if your computer has a wired connection), map network drives to both the UnitiServe and Core from your computer and copy the files over.
As an aside, if you use a Mac from the next OS update 27 I think NServe will no longer be able to function. Unless of course Naim update it.

Agreed, and fwiw, I find BNC S/PDIF out just tops UPNP LAN for ultimate sound quality into my 333:300.

I wouldn’t do it myself, but then I don’t go for fancy cables in any form.
I found the Core to be sensitive to power cords, ethernet cords and interconnects. Sensitive enough at least to hear differences when each is compared.
I was busy with friends and relatives visiting so had no time to get the Core setup.
My dealer installed an 8TB HDD and now I‘m transferring my music from the old US and my Nas.
Really like how the artists tab now shows pictures in the Core and its very fast to display the album, artist views. Much faster than the US. I‘ll look into getting a proper ethernet cable.
