I am looking to update my UnitiQute 2 Firmware as I can’t seem to play BBC stations anymore (Radio Paradise still works fine) so I’m wondering if I need to do the update. Screenshot attached from app which I believe shows 4.1 and the latest is 4.8 right?
Anyway I’ve gone to the Naim updates site and downloaded it but whenever I try to install it states the following (series of pics to show where I’m at)
4.8 is the latest version and you do need it to play BBC stations via iradio.
The issue you are running into is that Net Framework 2.0 is no longer available. But later versions are backward compatible and so I suggest you search for and install Net Framework 4.5 or later (which is available) and hopefully the Naim software will pick up that version and operate normally.
From Naim firmware version 4.1 you can go direct to firmware version 4.8 so ignore any suggestions that you should install intermediate firmware versions.
.Net 2.0 support is usually included in newer versions.
Go into your settings>system>optional features
and right down the bottom click on “More Windows features” to open the more comprehensive Windows features control box and make sure that you do have .NET Framework 3.5 selected (the little box is blue), if not select it and click on ok
Lifesaver. Ok this has appeared to work. Really appreciate everyone’s replies
Last question: Does it need to be directly connected to your router to do the update? This is a right PITA for me as my hub is installed in such a way that I can’t access the rear without some work. What about connecting it directly to a wifi extender which is connected to the router over wifi would that work?
It needs a reliable connection between the UQ2 and your PC over your network as well as the USB cable. But it doesn’t have to be direct to the router.
The two separate connections are needed because half the update is delivered via the USB lead and the other half over the network connection.
So using your WiFi Access Point is ok. If it fails to complete, then you can try again with an Ethernet cable. You can’t brick the UQ2 because you can always start again.
I normally move the unit being updated to where my PC is as the network is there also. You don’t need to plug loudspeakers in for the update and the UQ2 doesn’t care whether you have speakers connected or not.
Ok thank you very much. Next problem, I have it all connected but when I try to continue the install using a USB cable there’s no selectable port in the drop down menu (pic below). Any ideas?? Turning out to be quite a tedious process I must say!
PS, don’t judge the laptop screen with a million icons on the desktop, it’s my pet hate too but it’s my wife’s machine as I have a mac and the modern ones are devoid of any ports whatsoever…
Have you loaded the USB serial driver onto your PC as described in the instructions? This is a totally crucial part of the process.
Once you have that, you need to connect the UQ2 up and turn it on before you run the updater program. I mean don’t even start running the program until the UQ2 is connected and switched on. So close the program and start it again once the UQ2 is connected and switched on…
Finally great success! Ok so I installed the USB driver as advised and that’s worked. All updates installed and BBC6 music is working again now. I was a bit worried because my screen is no longer working so didn’t want to screw myself by doing the update in case I needed to configure the wifi set up again. Need to get the screen sort at some point but it’s probably as expensive as the unit itself now.
Assuming you are in the UK, Naim will probably change the screen for about £150 plus you will have to pay your dealer’s carriage charge to get it to Naim, usually about £30. It’s worth doing because the UQ2 is a real classic unit.
