Upgrade?

My setup is Nac282+Napsc2+HicapDr+Nap250Dr+Ndx2+Dynaudio Contour20i. Last time I asked about different upgrades……and yes I finally sold my Nd5xs2 and bought a Ndx2. And I don’t regret it. There’s a little bit of more details + clarity and appriciate the screen . So suggestions of next step in improving sound ?

Xps dr for the Ndx2 might be a plan👍

Supercap DR made a big difference when I had a 282. Not everyone agrees but given the current price of a SCDR it seems worth a go as it won’t cost a huge amount.

Conventional wisdom would be to get the power supply for the source first and then upgrade the 282 to SCDR. Maybe due to the bargains to be had on Classic kit, you could get both for less than one new PS would cost a couple of years ago, so might be affordable to be doing both.

Put a Powerline on the Napsc2. Yes, I know that might not seem like a sensible thing to do but when I had a 282 and my dealer came round one evening with a Powerline and suggested I try in on the Napsc I was gob-smacked at the instant and obvious improvement.

Best value would probably be a pre-loved 555PS DR on the NDX2…:grinning:

Source upgrade would be worthwhile. If you want to keep the NDX2 I would upgrade either the power supply (to XPS or 555) or the DAC. Personally I preferred the DAC upgrade route, and there is plenty of choice out there, but whatever you do, you will need to listen for yourself to make a good choice.

We pretty much have the same system.

My set up is XPS DR > NDX 2 > Hi-Line > SuperCap DR > NAC 282 > NAP 250 DR > NAC A5 > ProAc D30RS – also: C2960C-8PC-L Cisco Catalyst Switch, English Electric 8Switch. Also: Also use AV Options SuperWiremold Deep-Cryo Power Strip with AV Options TibiaPlus12 Deep-Cryo AC power cables.

So I did feel there was benefit to adding a XPS DR to the NDX-2 as well as trading in my HiCap DR for a SuperCapDR at the time they were discontinued. It was another uplift to the music.

Other positive changes was replacing a Netgear 8 port switch with a used Cisco Catalyst Switch 8 Port switch.

I later took a English Electric 8Switch home for demo from the dealer and it also was a positive improvement to the sound.

I was a doubter with how the music sound would improve when going with the Cisco switch and then adding the English Electric 8Switch. On both occasions the music sound improved.

The other small improvement was replacing the standard Naim power cords with AV Options TibiaPlus12 Deep-Cryo AC power cables. Then after that adding two AV Options SuperWiremold Deep-Cryo Power Strip for use with the system cables.

The final touch was adding Herbie’s Giant Titanium Cone/Spike Decoupling Gliders under my speakers and system rack. (Herbie’s do ship internationally).

All worth while improvements for my system.

When considering these upgrades I did use the search function on the forum and found plenty of comments regarding the changes I was considering. So the search feature can be a friend when considering change.

If it were me, I’d be trying different speakers. Whether relevant to you may depend on what speakers you auditioned when you chose your speakers, and in particular whether you appreciate the benefits to musical openjoyment from full range sound including the very bottom end.

You’re right, but I forget to tell that I have a Sub6 also .
I was shown some PMC speakers compared to the Dynaudios. For me there was a warmer sound with Contour that I like.

I heard very little difference when I added an xps. It wasn’t until I moved to the 555PS that it really started to sing

It depends on how much you want to spend, if you consider buying pre-loved gear and if your room is already optimized. However I would consider:

  • XPS DR, 555 DR or NPX300 for your NDX2
  • NAC 332
  • SuperCap DR
  • Better or simply different speakers

555 for the NDX2, then just sit back and enjoy!

I think you’re right actually, the problem is that I have an endless curiosity:grin::smiling_face:
There’s small steps up in soundquality but it costs, but so far it has been worth the money !
