Does someone know why Naim advices not to use both the rca and Din of the same input on the amp?
I was thinking that it might be a little easier that way for dummies: Not necessary to change the input on the amp, if the TV would be on the rca, and the streamer other on the din connection of the same AV-input.
As I recall accidentally doing this once with my Nait5si, it made the source much quieter. I suspect that there’s not enough juice to power both sets of sockets at the same time or puts too much load on internal components.
I’m sure a more technical response will arrive shortly.
They’re parallel inputs to the same circuit so the input on one sees at best the output impedance of the other, which will be much lower than the input impedance of the pre so this will sap current. It might also excite the feedback loop and provoke an output signal too at a guess, if the second source is also powered. Nothing good can come of it.
There’s always going to be an interaction between caused by having them connected on parallel. It will affect the sound in some way. Much better with a switch of some kind. Because commercial din switches are uncommon it will need to be using the phono side.
In my 50+ years of audio I cannot remember a single instance of support for using multiple sources on a single input. What brand gear even offers something like that? Why would that even be necessary? It’s bonkers if you ask me. Change the source input when you change the source. Problem solved!
You got a Naim remote with your XS2, didn’t you? It should have buttons to change source inputs.
It was a serious question: Trying to simplify things, mainly for a higher WAF.
And the remote recently stopped working completely. (It has never been reliable, except for the volume: Refusing mostly to change the input. And for some it has way to many buttons.)
But i think i found a solution bij using the Arcom irDac-remote: TV, streamer, minidisc and CD wil be connected by sp-dif or toslink to the dac. And the dac by one rca-cable to the amp. This little remote works well and can also change the volume of the XS-2!
