Vinyl releases on pre order

Sadly I am out on the west coast of Canada so no tour for me.

Ahh… hence the BC suffix?

Indeed. I actually saw NMA in Edmonton back in 2005. The day before they had played in Atlanta, then flew to Edmonton to play, and the next night were in Austin Tx. Given the size of the audience (albeit very enthusiastic) they must have lost a packet flying up for one show. I am not sure they even come over here anymore.

Anyway, apologies for thread drift.

Quadrophenia and Who by Numbers Half Speed Remasters out next February I believe.

I have first presses of both and a Classic Records 140gm Who by Numbers both the Who by Numbers are excellent but I’ve always wanted an upgrade on tv we Quadrophenia so might try that.

Why in God’s name didn’t the get Kevin Gray or even Ryan Smith to do The Who catalogue or even do a reissue using the old Classic Records cuts.

Thanks for the heads up. Interested in this as my current vinyl copy of ‘Quadrophenia’ is poor quality.

For what it is worth, I reckon ‘The Who By Numbers’ is an underrated LP.

When all these labels are doing great all-analog reissues, I just don’t get why Abbey Road Studios is still hell bent on half-speed mastering. Such a disappointment.

Abbey Road isnt hell bent on anything.

Its Miles Showell’s speciality who just happens to work at Abbey Road and like most jobbing engineers works to order.

Abbey Road isn’t doing anything analog, as far as I’ve seen. Semantics aside, it’s still disappointing.

I agree regarding Who by Numbers I got into massive trouble as a 7 or 8 year old for joining up the dots on the front cover of my parents copy.

Really hit and miss Amy Whitehouse’s first teo records where pretty good AR remasters and Who’s Next wasn’t bad but I sold my copy of Live at Leeds and Marvin Gaye’s - What’s Going On both of which where flat and lifeless.

I put a plastic outer sleeve on mine and joined up the dots on that. I agree it’s underrated. IMO it’s probably the third best after Quadrophenia and Who’s Next.

Wasn’t bad? It was awful. One of my favourite albums. I looked forward to it and it was junk. I sent mine back.

Our individual speakers, rooms and turntables play a huge part in how records sound so it’s not surprising people hear things differently.

That old chestnut.

IDK: bad remasters are bad remasters. I suppose less revealing systems can mask that to some extent, but that’s just lipstick on a pig,

Perhaps my ears aren’t as audiophile as other peoples maybe I need some of that Japanese audiophile grade olive oil to clean them out.

Thats not the same as saying their hell bent on half speed mastering which just isnt true. There are other mastering engineers working there, only Miles Showell does half speed to the best of my knowledge, its his speciality and clients go to him if thats what they want, if not other engineers are available at Abbey Rd or elsewhere.
I doubt its entirely true that Abbey Road arent doing anything analog, I expect its again a case of what the client requires. Abbey Road is certainly of course capable of AAA, ok it was a while back, but how about The Beatles Mono Box set.

Sean McGee; Sean specialises in all-analogue vinyl cutting…

I love a good AAA remaster when done well, as do I with a good digital transfer if done well. There are pro’s and cons either way.

What I dont agree with is analogue fundamentalists who seem to have an analogue is the only way mantra. Analogue = Good, Digital = Bad.

I believe that most listeners cant tell the difference in a blind listen. Its always a source of amusement to me when some “audiophiles” rave about how good a particular record sounds then have to ask whether its sourced digitally or all analogue, well if you have to ask…

To further illustrate my view, we have the hilarity of analogue “audiophiles” who insist on AAA the only way and for years raved about MoFi, then had their illusions shattered when it was revealed that MoFi had been using digital all along.

absolutely agree @Dreadatthecontrols the result in your ears just count

there are good and bad AR Remasters and thre are lots of AAA Remasters that are not good

there are also wonderful records with a digital source e.g. Toy from Yello or Random Access Memory from Daft Punk. Both are beautifully pressed with an astonishing SQ for a reasonable price
