I would also be put off by anything that hot, particularly as we have not really hit peak summer temperatures. If you are still interested in the single box route, there are other contenders out there running class A/B…Accuphase, Gryphon Diablo 300 etc. Why not try them, nothing to lose.
Good advice from your dealer Dunc, it frustrates me when I hear someones going to change something because it wasn’t set up right in the first place. It doesn’t take long to get a system sounding at its best but I guess I am spoilt by having Peter on hand to make sure mine sings.
If you are in any doubt leave as is, go away and do something totally different and come back and enjoy your music when you haven’t got so many doubts in your mind,
Kind regards,
Nigel
I would really love to have a home trial of a Vitus as of right now, since My 552 and ND555 are sitting boxed up in the hallway waiting to go on holiday in Salisbury for 2 or 3 weeks. Would need to have a phonostage so I can play my LP12 through it please. Not much to ask surely?
You do really as it takes about 2 days from cold to fully be warm and sound its best, and I certainly can say it does sound different as it warms up.
I left it in mute and A/B mode when not in use and then switched it back to un mute and class about an hour before I wanted to listen.
Doing this it does cool down a bit, but its still quite warm and left in class A it gets hot and you can feel the heat coming off it once you get close to it.
It’s just so different that’s all and I guess I would get used to it, but it does warm my room up.
For me, that heat generation would always be in the back of my mind, negatively.
We had an older plasma tv up in our loft, where we watch tv (if we do) in the evenings. It is hard to cool in the summer as it is, and the heat thrown from the tv did just that – it bothered me. Gave it away and bought a nice LG oled that runs way cooler. It really did bother me
Great that you tried both. The Naim amps really do respond well to a very good rack & cable dressing and conversely sound a bit flat and off ever so easily on a less effective rack & sub-optimal cable dressing. They are sensitive flowers like that but great once properly set up. A FRAIM rack would really let you hear the best of what you already have (no, I am not trying to sell you one!).
I leave my SIA 030 on 24/7 in A/B mode on mute- it does not create any noticeable heat and certainly does not heat up my room…Even when playing for a few hours in Class A heat generation has not been a consideration. Perhaps the 025 is different in this regard…
I wonder if the massive chassis of the 030 is a benefit there, its heatsink fins will have much more surface area to soak up idling heat. The RI amps also have more heatsink surface area than the 025.
Also, Hans-Ole Vitus noted in a facebook interview recently that one reason the 030 was later to market than he hoped was due to the challenge of designing its passive cooling system, as he will not tolerate installation of fans in Vitus amps. Sounds like his design team met the challenge!

Is the Sia 030 your first Vitus amp?
Hi Dunc, any chance of some photos of how your room/ speakers are set up (as per Gazza’s request) . Also the room dimensions and how your speakers fire please. What is the distance from speakers to back/ side walls, and how do you feel your bass response is in your room? Not too big an ask, eh? ATB Peter
Dunc, a bit unclear from your post if you keep the streamer connected to both amps at the same time? If so definitely try disconnecting the cables to the Vitus while auditioning the naim amp.
Yes i did and its not a problem with the dcs, the outlets are separated and all been discussed on the dcs forum and ok by dcs themselves.
But right now the vitus isn’t even on and is sitting in the corner on its own
Will do peter
Yes I’ve heard the Vitus integrated in home situations and driving the hell out of inefficient speakers
and must say never experienced the heat that Dunc seems to be getting in his situ.
With V’s comment here I’m wondering if someone/Agent/DealerTech/etc has upped the bias in Dunc’s Amp.
It should be internally adjustable via trimpots or such.
Anyway just musing.

Obviously I did Dunc a disservice and for that I do apologise.
My advice to Dunc is - there is no rush, it’s okay to say, I’m unsure, I don’t know, I’ll take my time and may have to return to this at some time in the future.
I certainly have made mistakes by having to make a definitive choice, do you prefer A vs B ? Yes and no isn’t an answer that makes much sense but sometimes that’s just it, which may just indicate that C may be the answer.
Take your time, if you’re not sure, just revisit it later, if you’re sure , press the button - either way you end up with a pretty wonderful system.

Yes
Well after an interesting message on the dcs forum from another vitus/dcs owner, it has come to light that i have been using the vitus on the wrong input setting voltage, as it was set to, line 1, 4 volts and line 2, 8 volts, the menu on the vitus is quite complex and wasn’t helped by not getting a manual, with the demo machine.
Anyway both now on 8 volts, as the rossini is set on 6 volts output, so this should help massively with the distortion i was sometimes getting and i guess overall sound quality as wont be over powering the input now.
Anyway popped home and just done this and plugged it back in, so it can start and warm up once again, ready for me to try once again with it.
Hwo would have thought, demoing an amp, could be this complicated lol
Cheers dunc
Are you an all vinyl person, or do you have the DAC Streamer in the 030?
