Vitus integrated amp v 552/500

Speaker ports have a variety of uses

I would be keen to know what are those amps, particularly integrateds.

Ah ! That Bl**dy Use of English thread again !!

Youā€™ve caught me out !

When I used the expression ā€œall sounding somewhat similarā€¦ā€ what I meant was they all sound nice (hence similar) but in a different way to Naim and Vitus (and no doubt, each other). I am sure (well I actually know) there are plenty of good amps out there. Each one capable of delivering an exceptionally enjoyable sound, but probably to different people. The good-sounding hifi market isnā€™t limited to Vitus, nor is it limited to Vitus and Naim.

There are plenty of other makers of really good amps out there (thatā€™s where the similarity lies). But different people have different tastes.

Iā€™ll have to re-read my Use of English thread again sometime. As I said at the start of that thread, I was never very good at that subject.

Been playing, you can do quite a bit on these and each input can be individually set up differently
Even set the right volume for each input, so when selected the volume is just right

Itā€™s got a dot matrix display, that is so yesteryear compared to today!:rofl::rofl:

Looks great Dunc! :+1:t2:

Just had a wonderfully relaxing listening moment, and will probably sound rather parochial: the 500 DR remains such an enjoyable system!

It is wicked fast without being gritty, which allows chiselled piano or bow attacks. At the same time, music flows like a charm.

The DR version is amazing (IMO, far better than the CD555/552/500 non DR setup).

That had to be said :innocent:

Only problem is at my age, plus the distance from seat to hifi, i cant see what it says anyway, or what the rossini and melco display. But i think its quite cool and better than input 1 and input 2

I suggest you acquire some good binoculars!

Maybe such display plus the processor adds noise. In an all our engineering effort that Naim strives for thereā€™s no leniency for this in terms of how it affects Sound quality

It matters only if the user can hear itā€¦pun and no pun

well that was the whole point of the NAPSC - to have a separate power supply to control these noisy circuits (processor and display) in the preampsā€¦

Maybe the display on the streamers. There for the market not for the sound and by all accounts a lot of effort was put into mitigating its effect.

The DCs network bridge has no display

Well it looks like you lot are going to have to put up with me for a bit longer.

O Dunc the suspense!..

Naim staying?! :scream:

Well guys today should have been the day that my 500 kit went out the door, but due to cables etc not turning up in time, this afternoon got postponed.
So for some reason, i decided as i had time i would quickly connect it back up, and after a good week plus off not having it, i found i actually liked it. So after thinking, 5hit, i played more tracks and then tonight made the call.
To be 100% fair and honest, richard has been fine about it all and a true gent, as up to the call tonight he and i had almost done the deal on it all, but i had said that i wanted it and like i said richard tonight was fine with the outcome and that says alot really.

But i can see the advantages the vitus has over the naim, it also has disadvantages, but then most things do. But for me to fully get the vitus sound and everything that goes with it, i need a massive change in my system, from speaker and cables, and until that was achieved it would always be a bit off a compromise. Now i havenā€™t had my speaker 12 months yet, so didnā€™t want to get rid, plus the wife already thinks i am mad lol, but with the current climate and things, having a system that i knew wasnā€™t as good as it could be, would in the end bug me. Maybe i will revisit this journey, if or when i could fully commit to a complete system change, until then the 500 kit will have to do.

But as i said right at the start, i wasnt expecting to like the naim as much as i did today after all it was cold and once again just plonked on top off each other, but it did, maybe i was in the right frame off mind for its sound, i dont know. But its staying for now.
Once again its been a rollercoaster ride, as it always seems to be with me, well almost as the only things that havenā€™t been is the rossini and melco. But it does highlight that sometimes your perception of things can be different and time is the only way to be fully satisfied

I am sure we have all learned a valuable lesson from this post. Thank you for taking us on your journey.

Old cliche I know but itā€™s only the bloody stereo.
