After a long lunch I invited a few friends back to listen to some music and partake in some wine. However the sound quality was less than stellar and I was quite disappointed. Next day, after a bit of checking things out, I discovered that I had set volume control at 40/100 on the Innuos server rather than adjusting the volume on the NAP252. After resetting the Innuos volume to 100/100 great sound quality was once more returned. What a silly school boy error. I’m sure you folks will not repeat this mistake.
I presume that adjustment was in digital domain, or does the Innuos have a DAC?
Yes the Innuos volume control is digital. Currently I have the Chord Qutest Dac but this is being changed out to a Holo Audio May KTE in early January.
The impact to SQ with the volume digitally controlled was big - mid range and treble sounded muffled. I think the bass was saved by the REL subwoofers. A big clue to the issue was the lack of volume as the listening session progressed.
