Any thoughts on what I can do to safely repair this bubbly label?
I’ve seen this before.
It’s either a Label not stuck properly or a Label on top of another.
I’ve repaired such once before using a light universal glue in a medical syringe with needle gently injecting while spreading out from the sealed edge to the needle then wipe the last tip clean before setting.
Slide the needle into the void not just through the top paper.
Bit if a faff but if it matters.
Thanks for the tips. On closer inspection it does actually look like its a second label stuck on top. I’ll see what I can do with it
Had a couple of those over the years - so long as it’s stuck firmly enough not to come off, I wouldn’t do anything. If it’s a brand new purchase, I guess you could try returning it.
On a similar issue, I have an original label which is way off-centre and touches the track grooves, so I was going to try to take off the offending piece, cutting around the second label.
Has anyone done this, and is there a good way to remove the residual glue, which I am sure will be left behind? I was thinking of white spirit.
I bought the album a while ago, so probably a bit late to send it back.
Many thanks for any help
Unfortunately, where you have a mis-pressed label that covers the dead wax area you have a potential destroyer of an expensive stylus. The labels are usually applied during the pressing of the vinyl so the vinyl is essentially melted to the label. Attempted removal will usually cause some damage to the vinyl too. There’s not much can be done here except to avoid playing or else be very vigilant and lift the stylus just before it reaches the label.
Hi Richard,
Thanks very much, though not what I wanted to hear as I thought that it would be relatively simple to remove the label and any glue. I had no idea that it would be a more sophisticated process.
Perhaps I will look to send it back under the Sale of Goods Act, rather than the usual 28-day return period.
Keeping a close eye on the stylus will not make it a relaxing listening experience and the risk of being late is too great.
That’s a straight-up return & replacement if ever I’ve seen one. Even if you could’ve removed the label, I’d have thought the glue would remain in the run out groove. Not great.
Thanks. A clear lesson for the future to at least open and inspect albums when I get them.
A bit poor that it got through quality control in the first place with such a glaring error.

Almost regardless of the age of the record, surely a responsible retailer would replace it/refund you.
It is clearly unplayable, due to the obvious risk of wrecking the stylus. If the retailer refuses I suggest you mention the Sale of Goods Act (2016? - I am not a lawyer but the phrase ‘Not of Merchantable Quality’ springs to mind) to them as they have an obligation to provide a useable item &, through no fault of yours or theirs, have clearly failed to do so in this instance.
It can’t do any harm to try.
Thanks, but I am now struggling to find my receipt/order, not that it was that long ago. Always the way as I can find everything else for other recent orders.

Some other name in less polite circles!
It will be in the last place I look!
I often find this to be true!
Today I finally cracked open a SEALED Mofi Duke Ellingnton’s Anatomy of Murder I purchased from Acoustic Sound.
The B side of record has entirely a wrong label!
