Weekend in Dublin

Thanks everyone for your input.

Growing up in London, always felt more comfortable south of the river…

We will watch our step

One thing that struck me in January when I was there, was the level of hopelessness/begging. People, and often female, wanting’“ A Euro or two”. Yes, every capital city has that, and my office is in London, albeit Canary Wharf, but it struck me as more blatant in Dublin.

There is not much north of the GPO building, or maybe I didnt go looking. I have family that live in Beaumont ( Dublin 9) and the pubs around there are fine- or maybe it’s because I was with locals. But yes, south of the Liffey is likely better. Quickly gauge the price of a pint. It can vary from sub €6 to over €11. Take the Luas somewhere or the DART.

If you are getting the bus from airport to city centre, the timings are a bit more relaxed than you may be used to. Actually perhaps the whole of Dublin is that bit more relaxed.

North Dublin isn’t all bad. If you go a little further out of town, Howth or Malahide are pleasant enough if you want some fresh air or a stroll on the beach.

Back in my Dublin days I rarely went further north than the Abbey Theatre or Moore St. market except for the two years that I shared a house in Castleknock in a salubrious estate on the other side of Phoenix Park.

However I did once visit Tallaght on the south side and nearly got murdered by some travellers who wanted me to give them my watch. They threatened to kill me and rape my girlfriend.

South side.

In Dublin! Something not right about it though. It’s the sky, it’s this strange blue colour. Not black or grey…

Let me guess, Fields of at Athenry, Molly Malone, Wild Rover, or Irish Rover?

It is now. Staying at Temple Bar. This is awesome!!!:star_struck:

None of them yet. They just finished on Living on a Prayer before the break…They did do Zombie, Free from Desire, Whiskey in the Jar and Eye of the Tiger though. And some Sheeran nonsense…

Though I am still waiting for a wild gypsy up my rover.

Normally just before midnight……keep going:joy:

Valerie, Titanium, more Cranberries and Sheeran…

I wouldn’t be able to resist not visiting The Windmill Lane Studios..

Definitely Trinity College - Books of Kells & the Library

Interesting eating places without breaking the bank

  1. Vintage Kitchen, next door to Muligans (very old traditional pub) - also close to College Green & Trinity
  2. In the same area - Gloria, new Italian
  3. Rosa Madre, Italian in Temple Bar, good wine list
  4. Daata on George’s Street, latest incarnation of a new chain on the Southside
  5. l’Gueuleton, Fade Street (across the road from O’Reagans who have a Vinyl session on a Sunday late afternoon/evening and Live Jazz on a Tuesday).

Missed some of the rain so far in 2026, as have been away

Lord, six pints would have me under the table! I’m only a skinny little thing, haven’t got much to absorb it all

Best Sunday afternoon I’ve had in years.

Moved off the Guiness now.

Sod working for a living. I want to come here and drink beers while listening to some great music in a party world every day now.
