Very nice. You’d be very disappointed by the average UK multi-storey car park. Dismal premises usually full of PCP financed SUVs.
I had to nip into my local town to drop a watch in for servicing recently and parked in the usual multi-storey car park. The smell of stale piss in the stairwell reminded me that in these strange times, some things just don’t change.
Headed out to see daughter and grandson on Sunday, Jag does not respond to either key fob or the app, used the skeleton key to get in but the alarm goes off and the key fob won’t stop it.
Home Start guy tries everything but concludes that something called the Body Control Module has gone. He’s seen it before on Volvos and Mercs. I know from experience the official dealer won’t touch it for a month or so unless it’s under warranty or plan. So tow truck to our localish independent Jag man it’ll be a week to sort.
How on earth can a modern car have such a sudden catastrophic single point of failure? God knows what would have happened had we been out hiking in the middle of nowhere!
Talking of the Boxster, I was just going through some pictures from the last few months and came across this one, which was rather fun as it showed the Dog wagon in the background and contrasted Porsche’s Lapis blue against the BMW’s Le Mans Blue. Yes, I like blue cars…
My wifes skoda octavia came to the end of its time with us. The haldex (?) unit failed and given the parts are worth more than the car we have let it go.
To be replaced by a kia sorento. Not the car I was expecting to buy having been firmly against the brand, but it drove a lot better than expected and was considerably cheaper than the more mainstream brands. So far quite impressed.
Very nice @Richard.Dane. I had a beautiful 17 plate BMW 330D X drive in Estoril Blue. Got it from new, on a 4 year kease, extended it to another year then I had no option but to buy it or give it up. At the time I had to give it up.
Now I have 63 plate 520D SE manual. Have had whole car bodywork resprayed pretty much apart from tailgate and a few other bits. New clutch and flywheel. Lots of other work done such as EGR valve repkacement. Will post some pics soon. Very smooth relaxing drive and more comfortable than 3 series. I have spent alot on it but it’s immaculate and I am happy with it. Going to keep it. Had it just under 2 years. Also I changed the 17" curbed rims for refurbed 18" wheels staggered set up.
There was minor corrosion to all 4 doors so BMW sorted that out and resprayed the doors under corrosion warranty (12 year warranty). 4 dents were taken out by bodywork specialists. Rear bumper was replaced after minor shunt from another driver.
I got the front bumper repaired, two front wings, seal covers, bonnet, roof and two rear quarter panels resprayed/repaired.
One rear quarter panel had bad corrosion. Although aluminium panels they are susceptible to corrosion. Panels start having black pitted marks as it blisters through paintwork.
These older cars need to be looked after. I have had it serviced twice. All problems resolved. Drives beautifully. Looks immaculate. And so it should. I have spent a fair bit on it.
I would like a more powerful car but tbh on UK roads what I have is quick enough.
I have had the car just under 2 years. See how things go but the car is a keeper for now.
That BMW of yours sounds like a complete nightmare in terms of all the work you have had to undertake. I’ve had a few BMWs in my time (have one now) and the 5 series (F10 I think) were pretty much faultless apart from one a/c component failing. My last car was a 2016 Lexus RX which I had to keep parked on the side of the road and it was almost completely without fault and remained in super condition right up to the point it was stolen (security was the let down!). Hoping youur car is now sorted but my goodness you have gone through far too much to get there!
Precision Porsche, Ringmer, East Sussex? A mate of mine has his Boxster looked after by them. Have occasionally spent some enjoyable time on the nearby Bluebell Line while they’ve done the service.
