I love Bach’s Goldbergs, and this version on harpsichord is one of my favourites.
Indeed we do Timmo, there’s plenty more to come ![]()
A bit of Chicago blues this morning before I hit the trails on my MTB.
Signed copy of the CD from a gig in the Jazz and Roots club, Shrewsbury, (second best venue I ever went to) circa ‘97 or ‘98 I think.
Sometimes forgotten about band in the whole 2-Tone music scene, but made some great music.
(Thanks to KBOO FM for reminding me.)
John Shepherd’s media vita - first heard during a broadcast from the Iona Community. Stunning … it takes over from Allegri’s Miserere as my go-to relaxation piece.
This album gets off to a bad start with a poor cover of The Equals ‘Black Skinned Blue-Eyed Boys’ and I think it’s fair to call it patchy despite some good moments.
This track is fantastic though. An answer song to Prince Buster.
Leonard Slatkin & BBC Symphony Orchestra - Bach: the conductor’s transcriptions
Transcriptions of Bach’s music for full orchestra.
Great band and good price for 5 albums but how they could leave out Tons of Sobs and Live is a mystery

Happy Birthday Iggy Pop! ![]()
72 years old Today! ![]()
For a Birthday treat i was going to play his first solo album 'The Idiot’ [ 1977 ] but the reissue copy i have is on the dreadful ‘4 men with beards’ label, so no. ‘Blah Blah Blah’ is Iggy’s seventh solo album of almost a decade later, it has the tub thump production feel typical of the mid 80s so unlike the earthy organic sounds from The Idiot; which incidentally is very well deserved of a spin on the original vinyl.
I’m not so familiar with Blah Blah Blah but it’s an excellent original vinyl copy that’s entertaining to say the least, and perhaps oddly in the sonic flavour of Billy Idol… (?)
The most recent album released toward the end of last year from my favourite Portland songwriter, singer, pianist and guitarist. Always brimming with musical and lyrical intelligence.
All albums available on Bandcamp. Only a limited number on Tidal although a lot more than there were until very recently.
On her own album:
I thought about the space junk looking down at the Pacific garbage gyre.
These times are placing demands on human escapist ingenuity in ways they never have before. To complicate matters, Americans are more cuckoo than ever, with absolutely no awareness of just how crazy we’ve become–like the reeking ladies so drenched in perfume they’ve lost their sense of smell and have no idea just how profoundly they’re affecting the atmosphere. I have to believe those ladies once made do with a single, sensible spritz, and then things just spiraled out of control. So I like to remember Americans once had sense.
