Happy Birthday Warren Cann!
69 years old TODAY!
One of those albums that I seem to like more and more as I play it.
A Keef Hartley afternoon. First up was The Battle of North West Six, the album I saw them play live at Thurrock (pronounced Furrock!) Tech near Grays, Essex in 1970. Miller Anderson was absolutely outstanding on guitar. It is a matter of regret I no longer possess the signed vinyl copy I bought on the night!
Now playing is their first album Halfbreed, a pretty good debut.
Should time permit, the afternoon session will be topped off with their fourth album, Overdog, not particularly well received at the time of release (1971), but well worth a listen imo.
1965 - Help (2009 Stereo remaster by Guy Massey, Steve Rooke)
Memories of queuing for a matinee at the local fleapit to watch the Beatles movie accompanied by much of this as the soundtrack, great days.
Yes, that Amos Lee again - My New Moon
I saw Amos live yesterday evening. Just him, an acoustic guitar and the wonderful acoutics of the intimate Union Chapel in Islington. A truly memorable occasion.
The concert was opened by the wonderful voice on Mutlu and I picked up this sampler CD called Caffeine & Whiskey. He does have a full CD out called ‘Livin’ It’ which I have ordered on the river. Mutlu also has a new CD out in August. This guy must have been supporting Amos for some time as I could hear distinct similarities in their voices. Possibly two of the finest male singling voices it has been my pleasure to listen to.
Amos was so gracious to Mutlu, plugging his music and sharing a duet with him as part of the encore. What a nice bloke Amos is.
1965 - Out of Our Heads (UK)
Those ‘bad boys’ The Rolling Stones were also knocking out some very decent albums to rival The Beatles. This one from the Hi-Res mono remastered box-set released a few years ago.
Jim Kerr hangs this guitar on a wall in his Hotel Angela in Taormina; lovely place
That looks such a well presented album and makes me wish I could still play vinyl.
Really pleased it was a great concert👍
2016 - Blue & Lonesome
The 'Stones still going strong more than fifty years on, they made another fine album with this one which totally caught me by surprise at just how good how good they can still be…
Yes, everybody involved has done a superb job.
