Charles Lloyd & The Marvels - Vanished Gardens

Charles Lloyd (tenor saxophone and flute), Bill Frisell (guitars), Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar, dobro), Reuben Rogers (bass), Eric Harland) (drums) and Lucinda Williams (vocals).

Streaming on Qobuz (96/24)… continuing on this afternoon while exercising with Charles and The Marvel’s 2018 release and the opening track ‘Defiant’ could just be my favorites track from this group. The opening track ‘Defiant’ with Charles’s Saxophone and then the rest of the band joining in, wonderful interplay between this quintet. Then of course the fabulous Lucinda Williams sounds so very sweet with her vocal contributions on a number of tracks! One very sweet album…

My album of the year. Its just stunning what she does with one guitar. The 2nd track Hell for Certain is just amazing.

So many great songs here, where Bob seems betwixt being lustful and lovelorn.

First chance to have a listen to anything for a few days, except Christmas songs and the car. Time to relax with 2 Bowie live CDs. The first a 2007 concert for the BBC (god bless them) and this year’s excellent release of a 1996 almost acoustic live ChangesNowBowie . Two of the best live offerings imo from the great man.

Charle Lloyd Quartet - Rabo de Nube

Charles Lloyd (Tenor Saxophone, Alto Flute, Tarogato), Jason Moran (Piano), Reuben Rogers (Double-Bass) and Eric Harland (Drums, Percussion).

Streaming on Qobuz (88.2/24)… closing out this Tuesday with Charles’s ‘Raba de Nube,’ an album I enjoy and have not had out for spin for quite a while. I listened to Charles earlier today and love his work and this is one very fine album!

Bob Dylan. Saved. Produced by Jerry Wexler and it’s very good. Appropriate for these times “Pressing on” one of my favourite Bob tracks.
