Tobias Hume died on this day in 1645
Tobias Hume (born possibly 1579) was a Scottish composer, viol player and mercenary soldier
Little is known of his life. Some have suggested that he was born in 1579 because he was admitted to the London Charterhouse in 1629, a prerequisite to which was being at least 50 years old, though there is no certainty over this. He had made his living as a professional soldier, serving as an officer with the Swedish, and Russian armies.
His published music includes pieces for viols including many solo works for the lyra viol and songs. They were gathered in two collections, The First Part of Ayres (or Musicall Humors) 1605 and Captain Humes Poeticall Musicke (1607). He was a particular champion of the viol over the then-dominant lute, something which caused John Dowland to publish a rebuttal of Hume’s ideas.
Ending this evening with M. Ward - Transistor Radio. A beautiful folk album by the American singer-songwriter. Sweet dreams/good day/good morning everyone.

Since Yesterday by Strawberry Switchblade.
A bit of a pop hit from early 1986, someone just referenced it on Twitter and a bell rang. Brilliant, fun, reminds me of a certain time etc etc. And it sounds great. What’s not to like about music when it does that…?
While I’ve enjoyed the earlier albums, for me, this is when Bob gets interesting. My favourite of all his early work (60s).
Highway 61 Revisited.

Joni Mitchell. Blue. I must get a better copy of this.
Edit: I take that back. It’s the first time I’ve played this since upgrading my LP12. Keel, Radikal and Kandid seem to have tamed it. Amazing!! Joni’s voice previously used to be so on edge that I would turn down the volume. I’d assumed there was some damage to disc but apparently not. Now I can really appreciate the stunning control in the vocals. I recall Michael Ball saying this was his favourite album and as much as I always enjoyed it I can now fully relax and appreciate truly great artistry.
Sarah Blasko - as day follows night, on CD
Aussie Sarah’s hugely successful album. Varying styles (all relatively lightweight). Lyrically interesting.
Can be had for buttons from re-sellers on you know where. Recommended.
Hi @Steve_S, I’ve not heard of this group. Just checked and they are on Tidal, so I’ll give them a try. Cheers.
