Yes, the Album.
Its the 16/44.1 stream from Qobuz, thought I would give it a play as its been mentioned quite a few times and its one of the few Joni Mitchell albums I hadn’t heard before.
The good old MOFI gold cds are just wonderful but nowadays very rare because they’re long out of print. Some are sold for insane money but if you’re patient you can score a good find every now and then. I collected them while they were regularly available in the shops. Among the best I own is Pink Floyds Meddle, but Dark Side is not shabby either (but this applies to any copy of this timeless recording).
The new MOFI cds are also very good and worth a listen.
Enjoy all this wonderful music!!! Cheers, stay safe and stay well!
Yes, that’s just a lovely documentary. My wife fell in love with Billy Gibbons after watching this! I didn’t know that Frank Beard was on smack - in the 70s he even sold his old Ludwig kit for a trip. He regrets it to this very day.
It suits the mood of wet and quiet contemplation here this morning as I start to do some work. With thanks to Ewen (as is so often the case)
Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy - 2003 Atlantic / Japan CD / Paper Sleeve Edition / WPCR 11615
A lot of things seemed to go wrong yesterday, so I needed something that sounds so right.
Many times I’ve listened
Many times I’ve wondered
How much there is to know
It’s allegedly a typo that names Martina Topley-Bird ‘Martine’ rather than ‘Martina’.
Fantastic album, the version of Black Steel is probably one of the most powerful covers I’ve heard. I was in a mellow mood for listening but having seen this…
Also one of the early Alison Goldfrapp recordings on ‘Pumpkin’. I think this gets played at some point today.
Joni Mitchell - Hejira.
Not sure if I prefer this to ‘The Hissing of Summer Lawns’ or not, but the two albums remind me very much of my late teens/early 20s when they got played to death.
Still got the vinyl (and I really should get my RCM out and clean them properly) but must admit that increasingly the convenience of digital and Roon ends up with ‘FLAC taking up the slack’ rather than me getting off my arse to change a record.
Midnight Believer and the subsequent Take It Home are both fantastic records. Have both on vinyl and bought when they were released.
Sadly they both annoyed the purists.
The blues mob didn’t like them because they were too jazzy.
And the jazz mob didn’t like them because they were too bluesy.
And I’m annoyed by the purists.
So there.
Mike Oldfield - Hergest Ridge
The Original 1974 recording
On Vinyl
I believe that the Irish Wolfhound on the cover was called Bootleg and belonged to Richard Branson
