I was lucky enough to see Randy California play at Reading festival in 1982 - great gig
Nice one @crispyduck Can’t remember when but I saw him at the Odeon Birmingham supporting Gillan. Wasn’t bothered about Gillan and spent time in the bar having a beer with Randy California. Very cool guy, and great musician.
The soundtrack on Back packing/Inter-rail trips around Europe and Scandinavia in the 1980’s to 1990’s

Btw, the singer, Conny Kreitmeier, is a proper seriously good vocalist…
Joe Bonamassa. Black Rock. CD 2010.
Sugar Belly - Sugar Merengue (Studio One/Port O Jam)
Mento musician since the fifties Sugar Belly plays Saxophones and Fifes home made from Bamboo. Here in the early Seventies he recorded this album at Studio One of Mento, Calypso and Reggae material.
Eccentric, idiosyncratic, bonkers, at times out there and psychedelic sounding aided by the very non audiophile recording and pressing.
Nice surprise to see its available digitally on Bandcamp

Ianai - Sunir
Streaming on Qobuz (44.1/24)… a mention from @PaulM and @gthack in the last day had me place in the queue and now taking out for a spin. I saw the album available on bandcamp but no credits listed. Opening track sounding mighty fine and looking forward to the rest of the album…
Absolutely brilliant, MrsT loved them, great musicians with a wonderful comedic edge. We are now discovering there catalogue on YouTube. Highway to Hell is a classic
Not such a fan of the guys, but added to my collection based on 2nd hand cd rip, and actually enjoying it…

Re-discovering my music with my new gear
Mento Madness (V2 2004)
Many people believe the earliest indigenous form of Jamaican popular music and the roots of Reggae to be Ska music. However, the real roots of the music lies in Mento (not to be confused with Calypso), Jamaica’s unique rural Folk music and the birth of JA’s recording industry at the beginning of the Fifties with the pioneering Stanley Motta who started recording local artists on 78’s.
This compilation gathers up some essential Mento classics, around the time of this release and since there has been renewed interest in the genre with many compilations and artist re issues and new recordings.
