I Don’t Need No Doctor - played on OGWT and blew my socks off. Went into the local record shop in Strutton Ground, Westminster next day and it’s an album I have played to death for 50 years.

A storming performance from Steve and the boys.

Nice one.

Now playing…

Julian Lage - Modern Lore

Julian Lage (Guitar), Tyler Chester (Keyboards), Scott Colley (Bass), Jesse Harris (Casio, Acoustic Guitar, Maracas) and Kenny Wollesen (Drums, Vibraphone).

Streaming on Qobuz (88.2/24)… continuing on this afternoon with Julian and his 2018 release and the other members of the quintet are sounding mighty fine!

Earlier when driving: R4 programmes which included Scott de Martinville and his phonautograph, the earliest sound recording device…playback of which was later to give rise to a famous Charlotte Green giggling fit. (What am I saying?! She lost it completely.) And also the life of biophysicist Rosalind Franklin on Brief Lives. Apparently she wasn’t kissed at Cambridge, to which presenter Matthew Parris commented, “Neither was I.”

Now, Esbjörn Svensson Trio Plays Monk, followed by Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Out of Noise for a wind down after work.

Her singing style is strongly influenced by Billie Holiday, occasionally to the point of imitation.

Saw them at Islington when they last toured, think it was last year or early this, absolutely brilliant performance, had the place rocking.

Yes great showman. I saw him in the 1990’s playing keyboards for someone I can’t remember- todays memory exercise - could have been Chris Rea.
