My thanks to @AndyP for turning me on to this.
Karen Mantler And Her Cat Arnold Get The Flu
Excellent.
Puts me right in the mood to play Escalator later.
Love Getz, a great musician, but he was a hot mess as a human being. Zoot Sims, who had known Getz since their time with Woody Herman, once described him as “a nice bunch of guys,” an allusion to his unpredictable personality.
So I am.
One of my most-loved records.
Escalator Over The Hill
“A Chronotransduction by Carla Bley & Paul Haines”
An utter classic - and hard to photograph… (the non-boxed set is easier, but I can’t lay hands on it)
A few used mint vinyl albums from my favoured hifi supplier in Belbroughton…always a good selection of used vinyl …never leave empty handed. Listening starting with Pat Metheny.
American Garage is my favorite Metheny LP.
Aldous Harding – Designer
CD|2019
First listen. Enjoying the first song, looking forward to the rest.
Had to add this @AndyP
In all the years I’ve had Escalator, I’d never noticed in the libretto this photo of Carla’s daughter (nor indeed that she took part in the recording): I live and learn.
Nice one - glad you like the Karen Mantler album always nice to introduce new music.
I think I picked it up and Escalator at Farringdon Records in Leadenhall Market where they had a massive store circa early 90’s.
That was a great shop. I have a huge soft spot for Leadenhall Market, even if it is perhaps a bit gentrified these days. When my mum was a teenage telephonist in the City in the very early '60s, she used to go there to buy fruit in her lunch hour.
I like the bit in the film Brannigan with John Wayne when he walks into Leadenhall Market and goes into The Lamb pub - then it all gets a bit bizarre with a Sailor playing piano.
