Actually, not a week goes by without me playing my favourite album of all time at least once. And so, during extensive listening sessions on Saturday evenings, a slot is often firmly reserved for the Stones’ “Let it Bleed” - even on evenings when my focus is actually on completely different genres. Sometimes I find myself thinking on Sundays: “Man, you haven’t even listened to ‘Let it Bleed’ yet this week”. Then it’s always made up for immediately.
The album was released more than a decade before I was born and yet it has been at the top of my personal hit list for many years. For example, it’s the only album I always buy without a second thought when a new format or medium enters my daily music life.
“Let it Bleed” is simply MY record and always will be. If you had to put an album on your passport along with eye colour and other personal identifiers, that would be mine. And that’s how it is sounding out of my speakers right now …
The Best Of Faces: Good Boys… When They’re Asleep.
This is a fantastic album and one anyone who enjoys Art Pepper should seek out. The concerts were subsequently released in full on CD through his estate and on vinyl on Pure Pleasure
For contractural reasons Pepper had to play as side man to Mr Leviev but the whole band were wonderful. Mole issued two lps of the concerts. Mole also issued an lp of Gil Evans also a delight. I agree I miss it too.
