Ndudzo Makhathini - In The Spirit Of NTU (Qobuz/Blue Note Africa)
Enjoying this first taste of the first release from the newly launched Blue Note Africa, I would be enjoying it more but Qobuz for some reason only allow 3 tracks from it to play

Feeling a bit short changed by Qobuz with his newest album so now giving this a go
Described as a 21st Century pianist, composer, producer and arranger focusing on the spiritual, fusing modern sensibilities with ideas inspired by his Zulu heritage

My Story of Us
After a week of chucking out 21 radiators and a nice Vaillant Combi for low temperature radiators, a hot water cylinder and a 12kW Air Source Heat Pump with a few unexpected trips and some hours of no electric, the system is sounding oh so sweet again! Four men and the boss from time to time over 3 1/2 days.
Just about the only thing saved was the pipe work. The DWH takes 40 mins and 2kWh to heat from 40C to 50C once a day, so until the rads call for heat not much time to find out if the pump impacts the sound.

Some classic jazz from the Duke and his Far East Suite on CD. Isfahan is gorgeous as befits the city - to think it’s nearly 50 years since I was there as a 17 year old on a diversion from the Magick Bus to India. I understand it’s now rather spoilt by urban sprawl.
See also Joe Henderson’s lovely rendition of the tune in a duet with Christian McBride on his Lush Life Strayhorn album.
Melody Gardot | Entre eux deux | 2022
My first chance to listen to her new one, this time with Philippe Powell.
I think I saw that as a remastered vinyl somewhere. Maybe Burning Shed?
Beth Hart | Bang Bang Boom Boom | 2012
Melody Gardot wasn’t hitting the spot so it’s over to the rougher, tougher and bluesier Beth.
Having recently bought a couple of Terry Allen albums (and very fine they are too) I’m now digging deeper into his catalogue and listening to Human Remains and it’s another wonderful album. I’m not too surprised to see Lucinda Williams and Joe Ely guesting on this, but the presence of David Byrne is a bit unexpected, but very welcome.
At the moment I’m just listening to the track Little Sandy and I distinctly hear bagpipes in the background and they sound really good on this track. This is quite topical given the discussion of bagpipes on the “Which belter album could banish genre prejudice”!
