Melody Gardot & Philippe Powell - Entre eux deux
Melody Gardot (Vocals) and Philippe Powell (Piano).
Streaming on Qobuz (96/24)… a mention from @Steve_S above had me place this new release from Melody & Philippe in the queue and now taking out for a spin, and they are sounding sublime!
It’s been a while since I have listened to this masterpiece.
I feel that I have barely scratched the surface of it.
One of the truly greats.
Much as I love Trout, my personal favourite has always been Strictly Personal, perhaps because it was the first Beefheart I ever bought as a mere stripling.
Epic album ![]()
Even if you have 22.500 albums, you can have some spots you missed. And Brun was one of them and a show like Munich inspires to again explore some new music.
It is folk, but also jazz with maybe a bit of prog. And it is bleak low-key and melancholy, a bit like an early '70s acoustic Joy Division. No jaunty pipes or fiddles to spoil the party. So gets my vote.
Sometimes classifications can prove unnecessary barriers, I like folk music, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Fairport, not so keen on the traditional stuff. Joy Division, and New Order, are not really for me, I get bored after a few minutes of listening.
Picked this up recently, I had both Silver Apples and Wild Bull when I was young. not easy listens but giving it a go.
It always interests me how electronic music could go from this to Irrlicht or Zeit in about 4 years.
Roxy Music, Avalon. Was going to play this last night but ran out of time. Great in the morning, too. ![]()

After seeing this posted here by numerous folks, thought I’d give it a try. Enjoyable album.
You’re right! Together with Honey’s Death (it’s somewhere in the house but can’t rememer where…
