What are you listening to in 2022 and why might anyone be interested

Been really unwell since Tuesday and tested positive, truly awful couldnt bring myself to listen, watch or read anything until now. Rattling like a junkie.

Had a nice handful of new re issues itching to play and now, still feeling sh*t but hopefully rounding the corner, kicking off with this.

A record I’ve long enjoyed on Beer Mat and thanks to @Clive for the recent tip off now on a 2LP Mono set

Art Blakeys Jazz Messengers With Thelonious Monk (Rhino/Atlantic 2LP)

Fantastic session from 1957, my dog eared old third edition of the Penguin Guide includes it amongst the “crowned” titles of distinguished records the authors have a special admiration or affection for, rightfully so in my view. The “Outtakes” I normally leave for the musical transpotters but in this case they take it to another level, some incendiary unleashed drumming by Blakey in places with Monk swinging and grooving into an exhilirating whole, makes the master takes sound rather polite and tame

Similar package and presentation to the Rhino 60th Anniversary of Coltrane’s My Favourite Things but whereas that was mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed at Optimal this is mastered by John Webber at Air Studios (good job given the vintage source!) Pressed at GZ (some occasional light tics but nothing nasty and doesnt detract)

Warts n all, I’m pleased to have this, feeling better already!

Just listened to this on 1st press vinyl. Green at his best IMO with sound quality that staggers belief on my pretty good system

“A Fool No More” and “Apostle” are my favorite tracks. The Qobuz hi rez steam is very good also.

That’s such a fine album, Dread. It seems you are one in twenty-five but the message is that the pandemic is over… yeah right! Get well soon.

Thanks all, pardon the pun its been truly Dreadfull, wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy, at one point I was delerious and thought the meat wagon was coming. According to tinternet there are 9 main symptons that you can suffer one or a combination of, I have had all 9!
Were both fully vaxed, Mrs Dread is immune suppressed, she had symptoms but tested negative, go figure!

Bad news is it looks like its on the rise again.

Anyway rant over, glad to be sat in front of the old fruit box again..

Bit of Blooz to cheer me up!

Otis Spann IS The Blues (Candid 2022)

Lovely recording from 1960, just Otis tinklin the ivorys, shouting and moaning about stuff (just what the doctor ordered ) accompanied by Robert Lockwood Jr

One of a handful of Candid reissues cut by Bernie Grundman from original tapes

Nice textured Tip On sleeve

I have a real Zep thirst the last few days…
The mighty II, first Japanese press MT 1091.

My favourite next to the Classic and Monarch (lol, the only three I now own). Never heard a US RL or UK plum.

Is that a first pressing and issue with PG as executive producer, Stevie ? Looks like second issue without it.

I don’t know, Tony. I’m not sure whether the A5/B5 were first release or not. I’ll have a look after tea!

Vivaldi’s Concertos - Qobuz

My wife has been singing the Vivaldi Gloria at a ‘come and sing’ organised by the Standish Consort. It therefore seemed appropriate to play this which is top of the Qobuz Playlists. The conductor played a bassoon concerto on a period bassoon while the singers rested their tired voices.

Doesn’t she look stunning and Dmitry SinkovSky plays brilliantly. There are lots of different artists performing.

Apparently Vivaldi worked at an institution of fallen aristocratic ladies. Some of his works were performed by all female voices an octave higher in the case of the male parts.

Well worth a listen.

Scout LaRue Willis - Scout LaRue Willis

Debut album from Bruce Willis and Demi Moore daughter. No idea about her acting genes but musical genes are okay. Excellent song writing and voacals. She has a lovely voice. Certainly worth a listen!

Hi Tony
Exec Producer Peter Grant

I had a brass ring copy once (Mastersound pressing, US IIRC. May have been a German copy though. Must have look through my ‘go’ box, see if the Mastersound is still there.)
