What are you listening to in 2022 and why might anyone be interested

Thank you, Steve. Easiest way to tell if it’s first or second issue is on the label. Top one is the first issue with PG as Exec Prod. On the upper part produced by JP on the lower one. Apart from that, both pressings are identical.

Barney Kessel: The Poll Winners (Craft/Contemporary Records)

Correct me If I’m wrong but doesnt Barney Kessel seem overlooked when considering great Jazz guitarists of the period.
Whatever, this is enchantingly sublime, worth admission for Satin Doll alone, breezy understated swinging cool joined in musical conversation with the brilliant Ray Brown & Shelley Manne.
Typical quality sound from the custom built Contemporary studios engineered by Roy DuNann, I dont think Ive ever heard a poor recording from Contemporary, amazing this is 1957 puts many modern productions to shame.

Craft Records/Acoustic Sounds Series re issue mastered AAA by Bernie G

Naff cover art though, which also seemed a bit of a Contemporary trademark!

The Cult - Love - from the boxset.

Been a busy day, with much to and fro-ing, so, stuffed after an easy pizza, and next door being away, getting into a LOUD mood with this.

The Ipswich jazz festival was on this weekend, my dealer had a morning and afternoon session today. Top LP12 and ND555/2 psu with Statement and Dynaudio top end speakers. A great selection of jazz both vinyl and digital……listened to this classic, great recording….for any time.

I like the nifty play on words Poll winners and they are holding poles - very good I thought.

Abbey Lincoln - Straight Ahead (Candid re issue 2022)

Covid fatigue set in so this was my last spin of the session but getting there.

Abbey Lincoln’s vital and historically important, along with her appearance on Max Roach We Insist earlier the same year 1960, powerful and still strongly and sadly relevant to the current times

My copy bought in 1970 is a bit odd. It’s a green and orange label, but has PG as Exec Producer printed on both the label and the gatefold. The words “Do what thou wilt” are etched on side A but side B is blank.

Bit of a Chimera.

Interesting but, wherever it is, it’s not a Uk first pressing.

Streaming on Qobuz. This is great fun. On what other album would you find versions of My Old School and Apache.
