Jonathan Kelly - Twice Around The Houses (1972)
RCA recording artist Jonathan Kelly with Tim Renwick on guitar (doing what he did for Al Stewart). Gerry Conway on drums and Rick Kemp(e) on bass (Steeleye Span and at this time bass player in The Spiders From Mars).
‘A Night at the Opera’ - Queen
Remarkable album. Really good SQ on this remaster from a few years ago. I’ve found the reissues to be patchy - this one seems to be the best of the bunch.
Al Green. Explores your mind.
It’s a lovely morning made all the better by the sound of Al Green backed by some of the finest musicians.
Carolina Eyck - Thetis 2086
Having heard Carolina ‘playing’ the theramin on last evening’s proms broadcast, I was sufficiently interested to explore further. This is not (so far) as spacey as I heard last night, but track two is picking up.
Spiders From Mars member?
Around the time of the Jonathan Kelly album, Rick was in the Spiders From Mars as bass player. His tenure only lasted a few weeks until Tony DeFries and probably Angie pointed out that a bass player with a receeding hairline wasn’t quite the Ziggy image.
Bowie remained friends with Rick helping out Steeleye Span by playing sax on their album Now We Are Six on the track To Know Him Is to Love Him.
Other tenuous connections that you could spin out - Jonathan Kelly was on RCA at the same time as Bowie although I think Bowie’s contract was with RCA US. Tony Cox produced the album and was married to Lesley Duncan who was a previous girlfriend of Bowie. Tim Renwick plays guitar on the album and also players on the ‘Space Oddity’ album.
There you go…
Excellent - didn’t know about this reissue.
It follows on from the vienna re-issue so hopefully should be good, if not at least the boxes will match😄
