Dire Straits, self titled album.
Something brutal to match the rugby - how to turn metal fans onto jazz.
If I could choose only one folk album it would be this. 50 odd years old and still sounds like nothing else I’ve heard. Sounds great on vinyl, CD or just now on Qobuz.
Some Sun Ra, with the lovely June Tyson, inviting me into their space world…
Planets Of Life And Death
Strut/Art Yard 2015.
Live in France 1973.
Honest to god, parts of this sound like Ray Manzarek on one of The Doors’ lengthy jams…I think Jim would’ve loved this.
Playing my third copy of this one. First bought the single lp version years ago, then the double lp version, and then finally the excellent reissue from just a few years ago. Signed, a fan.
While waiting for my wife & cuzz to get back from Madonna @ the 02, got time to play one of my favourite bands in their second line-up…
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Visions Of The Emerald Beyond
First press, CBS 1975
Duncan Browne - Duncan Browne
The late great Duncan Browne. This solo album from 1973 has Suzi Quatro on backing vocals - assume as a Mickie Most production.
Duncan Browne was in a duo called Metro who wrote the song Criminal World covered by Bowie on Let’s Dance.
Here Duncan Browne is in Al Stewart territory.
@RipVanRadio - one for you.
Hania Rani - Ghosts. Gorgeous album. On Gondwana, and of the quality you would expect. Thanks to @Biggles for the tip.
What a voice! My experience of Roberta Flack was limited before this album and this has really opened my eyes to her as a performer.
Surfer Girl/The Beach Boys
A UK true stereo 1967 press of their 1963 LP. Unlike the contemporaneous Beatles LPs in hard panned stereo, these BB true stereo mixes are wonderful.
Ruby Darbyshire - self titled EP. Saw this young woman (she’s 16) supporting Amelia Coburn the other night, and she was great. Nice folky stuff, and plays a mean Scottish small pipes too. One to watch.
You are right.
Usually the records also came with the Holberg suite.
John Lennon Anthology
Playing disc one from this set (from Core). Its interesting to hear some of the recordings here in their early stages, often raw and more intimate than the published versions.
