1979 vinyl release…
We’re analysing a recollection I have from almost 50 years ago. It’s all just pop/dance music to me, wherever in the world it comes from but this on Wiki “The pop-oriented sound has given rise to criticism of the band over the years, with reggae purists uncomfortable with their incorporation of American soul and [R&B]” suggests my recollection has some merit at least? Let’s not lose sight of the fact that I really like Third World whose music I see as sophisticated in the same way as Steely Dan’s
Ha! Yes wikipedia making sweeping statements.
Dylan was criticised for going electric, Miles for his rock and fusion experiments etc so what?
Did I not refer to such criticism in my comment? Lets not forget that Pop means popular, and theres nothing neccedarily wrong with popularisng certain music’s and bringing it to a wider audience, as opposed to music that is just shallow commercialism.
What is a “reggae purist” ?
Not trying to be confrontational, I’m just intetested in your view of what is or isnt “proper reggae” not regurgitation of Wiki pages or rock publications written by journo’s with agenda’s and of course your entitled to a view and its that that interests me.
After an excursion out into the deluge for Haircuts & a visit to the garden centre (which included coffee & cake) home again and drying out to some Foreigner.
The Studio Masters edition of this, probably their best album. A real favourite from the days when Mrs QS & I met at college.
My view is no more complicated than I like the sophisticated music made by Third World. My recollection was that the sophistication reduced the authenticity of that music in the eyes of some. I’m satisfied my recollection was correct but that has no impact on my love of their early albums (which I own). I may have misunderstood you but you seem to feel the need to defend Third World (from me). That’s really not necessary as I like them
So after my LZ III fest I thought I would give this a go as never really gave it a listen ever. The only LZ I Don’t have a hard copy of…shame really as it’s rather good.
Another blast from my past……on CD.
Now playing…
Robbie Robertson - Killers of the Flower Moon
Streaming on Qobuz (48/24)… kicking off this morning with soundtrack listed in the new albums released on Qobuz and enjoying the first couple of tracks. Looking forward to seeing the movie at some point but at 3 hours 23 minutes in length I will have to stream at home since no way I could sit through that without some bath room breaks. …or insert a catheter and with a leg bag.
