Gothic Voices | Hidegard Von Bingen | A feather on the breath of God | 1982
Because I got one of my regular emails from Hyperion this morning where front and centre was this wonderful recording so I made a note to get it out of the library and play it a.s.a.p. What a woman she was!
Miranda Lambert - Postcards from Texas (2024)
Ten albums in and the quality level never seems to drop. A little different from 2022’s fantastic Palomino, the new album sees her leaning a little more towards country/honky-tonk than Palomino’s country rock/pop.
Not quite as immediate this time round, it’s generally more laid back but there is no doubting the quality of the song writing here. There are some beautiful melodies but she can also rock out and deliver a sharp put down when she feels like it. This will get a lot more plays.
An absolute class act.
Started this afternoon streaming Lady Blackbird’s new album on Qobuz. Moved on to CDs and listened to Bob Dylan’s ‘Tell Tale Signs’ (disk 1).
Moved on to ZZ Top, ‘Tres Hombres’
All very good
Queen - Live at Wembley 1986
I was flicking through Twitter and came upon one of those silly questions about which vocalist would you have in your ideal rock band. There were four choices. Thankfully one of them was Freddie. What a voice!
Nice one mate. Didn’t realise he was touring this year. I have only been lucky enough to see him as part of EC’s band early eighties. Such a unique style, have a great evening.
It’s certainly C&W - quite nice, but I prefer the cutting edge of Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter.
The Mad Liver - Thomas Dunford, Théotime, Langlois de Swarte
So far, one of my favourite releases from this year.
Picked it out from a pile to post on “best cover” thread. Now playing.
Apocalyptic, searing and soaring doom-rock from 1971.
Satori/Flower Travellin’ Band.
Last for this evening. CD. 2021. Steely Dan can do no wrong!!
Post supper digestif sticking with Impulse and their magnificent 60th anniversary box set. Side 7 with Alice (Blue Nile); Pharaoh (Astral Travelling) and Archie (Blues for Brother Jackson) doing the business as ever.
