One of my favourite bands too - got into them at the time of their first album, so that is my favourite.
One of the few albums I have more than one copy of (both on CD) - I prefer the raw energy of the original mix.
The 40th anniversary mix is clearer, but somehow softer and more polite…
Also can recommend listening to Sam Gopal’s album Escalator
for a pre Hawkwind Lemmy (on the left of course)…
Rocking out with some Sabbath such a great album with Ronnie taking over and some absolute classics like Children Of The Sea.It definitely revitalised them
Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell
Ron Miles, Bill Frisell, Brian Blade - Old Main Chapel. Lovely, live jazz.
Having a morning of my favourite Karajan/Beethoven Symphonies.
I have a variety of versions with different conductors, but this was my first and as a result is still my favourite
Amina Claudine Myers - Salutes Bessie Smith
I’ve been looking for this at a reasonable price for a while. Qobuz only do the 16bit at £13.29 but Cafe OTO website have a download shop and have this for £6 in 24bit.
This album is quite magnificent in terms of sound and performance.
As far as I can tell the Strawbs recordings were July and Rupert Street August of ‘67, but could easily be wrong.
According to Discogs (I cannot check my copy as it’s a bit inaccessible atm) the Strawbs album was recorded in Copenhagen in August 1968. However, that font of all knowledge (!), Wikipedia, says it was recorded in July 1967. The Rupert Street album was recorded at Alex Campbell’s home on 5 August 1967. The sound on the 19 Rupert Street album is not so hot, but it captures the intimacy of the occasion very well.

David, She is one lovely singer. She’s done some other bits apart from this debut (?) Check out High res audio website
The back of the 1991 reissue gives no date, I’ve checked I’ve always kept a unicorn (the biography, not the acoustic album) and it says it was recorded during their July ‘67 residency in Copenhagen. That ties in better with her joining Fairport in May ‘68 than a Strawbs recording 3 months after that, so this may be a rare case where Wiki has more accurate information about a record than discogs (or the biography is wrong and that’s where Wiki’s info came from).
On the more important note I agree that the Rupert Street recording is great.
After writing my previous reply I went and dragged out some recording equipment and speakers in boxes etc. to gain access to the CDs, where I checked the dates. My next port of call would have been the Unicorn book, but you beat me to it. Anyway, you are right. On this occasion Wiki is correct, Discogs is wrong.
Richard Hawley - 2005 -Coles Corner - CD.
This is the fourth album from RH which immortalises a legendary Sheffield landmark which was a popular meeting place for old and new lovers.
Looking forward to his new upcoming album ‘In This City They Call You Love.
