A very different album to his first solo effort (the first half anyway) but still very good.
A little bit of rockabilly to cheer me up on what is a fairly dismal day here in Sheffield
1978 - Robert Gordon w/ Link Wray - Fresh Fish Special - OG Vinyl.
Thanks Simon for your sharing your remix impressions on TFTO.
Look forward to hearing about the Japanese copy of Relayer when you get it soon
Happy listening in your cabin
Cheers Ian
@QuickSticks Is that the new Box set?
Many thanks
Lovedrive was released in 1979 nigh on 50 years ago, standards at the time were different to those of today, people’s views on what was or wasn’t acceptable were far more relaxed. I don’t think that we should judge what people created yesterday based on standards of today.
There have been plenty of risqué covers over the decades, even today the artists challenge us with cover design, for example the cover of Sabrina Carpenter’s album Man’s Best Friend, is that better or worse than Lovedrive?
However, the overrider in this is what the forum deems acceptable, even if I think that Lovedrive is perfectly acceptable (I do) if the mods deem otherwise then it should be removed.
But if you want to sensor that’s your call.
Enjoying on triple CD of Live Zeppelin taken from two legendary California shows

Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won
On CD. Frank Foster arrangements with strings, latin percussion, flute and trombones plus Bob James doing his thing on piano. Nice.
With all the debate about album cover art work
Sorry couldn’t resist ![]()
Lovedrive is a fine album. Not a duff song on it IMHO and, like you, I’m not in favour of any form of retrospective censorship in the arts - otherwise people will be sticking post-it notes over the nipples on Waterhouse’s ‘Hylas and the nymphs’. [In 2018 Manchester Art Gallery temporarily removed the painting following protest by the me too brigade; thankfully it was quickly reinstated owing to the public outrage such censorship caused.]
I have previously posted the original Lovedrive album cover on here without complaint.
You’d better invest in some decent kit to hear that Decca digital recording at its best! A great performance.
Volker Kriegel - Inside: Missing Link
Here Volker has the of best of Brit jazzers - John Taylor (piano), Alan Skidmore (saxophone) and John Marshall (drums). Add Eberhardt Weber on bass and Volker on guitars and you’ve got a great album.
Good price on 7digital for this double album and the rest of Volker Kriegal’s catalogue is on MPS in the latest Qobuz sale.
No, I have decided to pass on the new box set, as I believe the SW Remix will eclipse any other finagling and the cost of the box set for a load of extras I really won’t listen to seemed pointless. Especially in light of the 3 copies on CD and 2 on Vinyl that I already own🫣
You absolutely have the right to determine what you personally find offensive.
Deciding on their behalf what third parties might find offensive seems somewhat presumptuous, no?
Good cartoonist too !
I was recommended Joe Hisaishi this morning on a monthly newsletter, I’m currently listening to the Qobuz recommendation of a Buster Keaton soundtrack called The General. It’s fabulous and I’ll be delving deeper into the archives.
I think that’s me done on rude album covers, as @Clive noted earlier, Lovedrive is a cracking album, so playing now ![]()
