Another fantastic band I discovered via the forum. Willy Vlautin is the poet laureate of the luckless and the heartbroken eking out a life in the underbelly of the United States.

Can’t decide what to listen to so the dulcet tones of Sara Mohr-Pietsch on Radio 3s Night Tracks. A typically eclectic musical pot pourri. Laurie Anderson with a Fado singer ohhh yes.

Robert Foster The Evangelist

Pretty sure this started out as the next Go Betweens album before grants sudden death. Three tracks were co written by Grant, Demon Days is a standout.

François Chaplin, Debussy Complete Piano works. Disques Pierre Verany, on Qobuz

I bought vol. 2 of this set in 2001 and it’s been one of my favourite versions of Préludes I and Masques ever since.

Try as I might, however, I was never able to find the other 5 CDs of the collection. Thanks to streaming, I can listen to them at last and the result is well worth the wait: Chaplin’s sense of rhythm and his phrasing are truly remarkable, surpassed only by Jean-Efflam Bavouzet’s IMO.

As usual with Pierre Verany records, sound quality is beyond reproach (Verany was a sound engineer before he started the label.)
