Gigi de Lana - House of the rising sun

Just wait for the guitar solo, it’s simply beautiful.

Unfortunately, the song cannot be found on Tidal or Qubuz.

Acoustic, folk, indie pop. Haven’t listened to this in a long time. Nice to revisit.

Alfred Brendel, piano | Joseph Haydn | Piano sonatas Nos. 20 & 49 | Philips LP

I bought this vinyl record in 1980 or so. I wanted to listen to classical piano music and I found the front sleeve beautiful (!). To this day, it’s one of my favourite albums.

It’s also been part of my audio test playlist for 45 years. The is how it works: I listen to it on whatever format (LP, CD, streaming, it doesn’t matter) for 1 or 2 minutes. If I don’t get completely immersed in the music and oblivious to hifi stuff after that, whatever component or system I’m listening to doesn’t work.

Most recently, the NSS 333 / Audio Research i70 matchup played it like I’d never heard before. Both are now in my system.

Brahms | String Quartets Op. 67 & 51 | Takacs Quartet | Hyperion 2008

The Takacs Quartet lets you hear the blood pumping through these quartets. Only a little blood though. It’s Brahms.

Nigel North, Lute
(Naxos 2007)

In another timeline William Ackerman would have signed John Dowland to Windham Hill Records. Dowland’s Elizabethan lute music harmonizes with the WHR vinyl I was buying at Printers Inc. bookstore when I was in high school - melancholy with an edge, and beautiful. Of course, neither Windham Hill nor Printers Inc. has survived. Everything changes; nothing perishes.

From Naxos’ excellent 30 CD The Early Music Collection. Both this disc and that high-value box are strongly recommended.

Sasha - Scene Delete. Really enjoyable downtempo electronica and a big departure from his typical club-focused progressive house sound. It consists of 21 tracks designed as a continuous, undulating piece of music. Perfect with an early morning coffee.

Had no idea what to play this morning, but this hits the spot. Thanks Pat. What did I do before I found this forum?

Taken By Trees - East of Eden (2009). Another rabbit hole. This is a delight. Recorded in Pakistan, and infused with the music of that country. Apparently, she was abducted by locals because she was a single woman during the making of this album.

Sun streaming through the window with a nice strong coffee on the go as well as this. No complaints from me.

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

Out on my bike and parked up at Fairlight Cove, just getting my bike out and a hippie couple turned up and got a guitar out of the car. Guy looks over at me and I say can I have a go.

I played them ‘I talk to the wind’ that lovely opening E to Cmaj7 to Gmaj7 to F#m7 and B7.
The guy says hey man what is that chord you’re playing there.

Handed the guitar back got on my bike down Barley Lane in to Hastings and off on the Cuckoo Trail to Eastbourne. Life is certainly sweet.
