Doobie Brothers - The Captain And Me

The album cover shows the Newhall Pass interchange where the I5 and CA State route 14 converged after the 1971 earthquake.

It went again in the 1994 Northridge quake much to my regret and grief.

A great album.

Haydn
String Quartet No. 59 (“Rider”)
Takacs Quartet
(Hyperion, 2011)

About to head over to Carnegie Hall to see them live, and this is on their program, so have been giving it a couple of listens in preparation.

Edit to add: Well, that was awesome. They were the most compelling string quartet I have seen live. They really put meat on the bones of the music; they inhabit it physically; and, perhaps most importantly, they get the jokes.

… and no, sadly, that’s a trick of the light. Andras Fejer’s hair isn’t really blue.

At home recuperating from open-heart surgery…

I don’t recommend it unless absolutely necessary…(the surgery, not the album.)

Very restful soundscapes.

Her floorstanding ‘bass flute’ (can’t think of the real name) is a lovely instrument.

Folk, folk rock. I was surprised to see their most recent album was released in 2025. I only have 3 albums of an extensive catalog.
