What are you listening to in 2026 and why might anyone be interested?

Sun Ra
At Inter-Media Arts April 1991
2016
Modern Harmonic Records

Currently working through my Sun Ra collection and running everything through the ultrasonic cleaner. This three LP set was recorded live in 1991 but not released until 2016. It’s not an album I play very often as Ra tended to lean heavily on his early big band roots at this stage in his long career. That said, the Arkestra’s idiosyncratic take on songs from this era mixed with their own out there classics make for an intriguing listen.

Mesmerising lyrics, beguiling performance; crystal clear production captures the emotional intensity and purity of Giddens’ singing and musicianship.

Macca does a great Noel Coward impersonation on Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey.
