Now playing…

Avishai Cohen - Big Vicious

Avishai Cohen (Trumpet, Effects, Synthesizer), Uzi Ramirez (Guitar), Yonatan Albalak (Bass Guitar), Aviv Cohen (Drums) and Ziv Ravitz (Drums, Live Sampling).

Streaming on Qobuz (88.2/24)… easing into the afternoon noon hour with Avishai’s ‘Big Vicious’ album and he and the band are sounding sublime! …one fine and beautiful album.

Offa Rex - The Queen Of Hearts (2017)

The Decemberists team up with “Folk” / Classical singer Olivia Chaney (who has a really lovely voice) reworking mainly various old English folk songs. Marvellous album (The Gardener is my favourite track).

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Outtakes, brilliant.

Angelheaded Hipster

Hal Willner’s Marc Bolan tribute with a bunch of stars covering T Rex songs.

My favourite is Lucinda Williams doing Life’s A Gas with Nick Cave’s Cosmic Dancer coming a close second.

Thanks for reminding me of Offa Rex. Olivia Chaney has a glorious voice whatever she’s singing. Circus of Desire is her latest and third studio album of mostly her own material. I did wonder if her classically trained voice would distract from ‘folk’ material, but she crosses genres wonderfully.

I have found that all the streaming services have different inventories regarding availability of an artist’s music. Contracts with label holders or others that have the licensing rights. Alternative is to collect CD’s or electronic downloads to a NAS or add a CD player or turntable to the system. I do appreciate the streaming services for the exposure they have given me to artists around the world that I may not have heard otherwise. I enjoy Chip and many other artists that I first heard about through this thread as well as the Jazz, Folk, Classical, song of the day and other threads.

Amazon have rarely let me down with content. I think only twice with oddities or special editions. Chip is covered on Amazon.

Just for something different this morning. Work does that to you sometimes.

Irish Psych/cosmiche band - great use of drones, and nice male/female vocals. Well worth a listen.
